Venus | our brothers ans sisters in Libya are the closest to harvesting Freedom from the claws of gaddafi, it is just a matter of time!! eventhough i'm a pacifist, it is quite obvious that only force can bring this idiot down now on a more serious note: who else thinks that Gaddafi looks like Krusty the clown???? |
Randall | Yeah, sometimes there is no alternative but to fight for your freedom. He does look like Krusty. D'oh! ------------------ "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." Aristotle |
abcd efg | Venus, wishing the best to all of you. Uh-hum, havn't seen Krusty. But i have seen gaddafi, so i can guess. |
Venus | it seems Gaddafi's sons have escaped the rebels.. |
starfox | Its all about oil as usual. I read that Gadaffi was refusing to sell oil in USA $,which if true would have bankrupted America. Ergo Gadaffi now equals evil mad dictator who used to be a friend but now must be taken down (see Saddam Hussein et al). Revolution my foot. |
Venus | what about the people of Libya fighting for their own freedom doesn't that count? every country has a "hidden" agenda but thats not the issue at hand. what really matters that the citizens of Libya regain their right to govern their country.. he's been the president (or whatever he calls himself) for over 40 years!!!!!!!! no revolution is pure, there must be some selfish goal behind it but its about time they had some kind of change! lets hope the rebels dont run Libya to the ground once this is over.. |

The British Govt has been spending £40,000,000 a week to help the 'rebellion',while they say that they will have to cut essential services here due to being in a bad financial position/recession... Sorry but I remain very cynical about anything this Govt gets involved with. The Libyans certainly have the right to rule their own country, but must we force our version of democracy upon everyone? |
Venus | cant argue with that.. |
Randall | Freedom can never be a bad thing. ------------------ "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." Aristotle |
Randall | I guess we will assist them in creating a stable government. ------------------ "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." Aristotle |
Venus | @Randall, nothing is black or white! freedom comes with a cost, sometimes this cost is overbearing.. but nonetheless progress is what defines life ..lets just hope this isnt another Iraq although their are quite some similarities, the dictator, the natural resources etc.. |
Randall | How are the Libyans doing now? I never hear anything on the news about them. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark |
juniperb | Yes the news has been sparce this side of the pond. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ |
Venus | i feel awful re-reading my first post in this topic, although Gadhafi was a dictator the way he was executed is completely inhumane... the Libyans are heading for some growth with their relatively stable current political situation.. Syria on the other hand is a different story |

dysfunctionalmystic | Only days before the west started their war game ~ the UN had finished a report on Gadaffi and was going to recommend him for an honour of some sort because of the massive improvements he'd made in Libya. It was one of the most liberal muslim countries and was a shining star of wealth in Africa. Libyan citizens had many benefits including free health care and education. They got given money when they married to set up their home, money from each oil sale too. He may not have been elected in but he wasn't the person the western media painted him out to be. All countries have issues with their governments and they should be left to sort out their own affairs. Libya is currently in one heck of a mess, as is Iraq. Here in the west we could never conceive one of our leaders being brutalised in the way Gadaffi was. Our leaders (UK and USA) have way more blood on their hands than Gadaffi and yet they'll retire with a nice fat pension..... There was so much more to all of this than "ousting a tyrant". And the joke? We're not free ourselves. The only difference in the so called "civilised world" is that our leaders do it behind our backs with a smile on their face. Lizzy Phelan gave a video statement of events when she got back from Libya. She witnessed the lies. I dunno what else to say ~ I'm not apologising for Gadaffi's behaviour but it's just so hypocritical for the west to point fingers. |
Venus | dysfunctionalmystic, you are right its true that Libya was doing "relatively" well compared to other north African countries but still he was a Dictator who wouldn’t leave, the people wanted him to leave but he didnt, instead he fought them like the enemy.. a country be it Libya or whatever is not for one man to share.. Freedom is the MOST COMPLEX term i have ever encountered.. and yes NON of us are truly free
