T O P I C R E V I E WafrokenHow do you determine the dominant planet in a chart? According to astro.com my strongest planets are Pluto, Neptune and Mercury respectively. And i dont know why they rank so high. What are the factors? And is there any difference between a chart ruler planet and a dominant planet? Also, does anyone have any input about pluto, neptune and mercury being dominant planets? My birthdate and time is 10th november 1992, 8.12am, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Thanks in advance and any help would be very much appreciated. awatson4house placement...sign...aspects decide a planets power.example:mars in capricorn (exalted)squared by venus in ariesit's a square so lots of tensionaries to mars (ruler)...more strength....that may not have been the best lesson, but mehafrokenthx alot! but what about squares to the detriment?for example i have sun(scorpio) opposite moon(taurus) both squaring saturn(aqua). The dominant function is where we feel most natural, comfortable, at home; we take the talents and abilities associated with it for granted. It is easy and natural. Therefore, it may not be a source of great motivation. The inferior function comes into play when we are under stress, when we have to cope, when we feel out of our element. This can be a source of great motivation and creative expression. But, there is a trickster quality about it; it is there when least expected. It undermines the dominant function. Suddenly, all the gifts, talents, achievements can be wiped out! The rug is pulled out from under the comfortable, habitual way of being and interacting. The inferior function manifests in embarrassing and inappropriate ways.edited to add: can also be a planet involved in one or more major configurations. alchemeThanks for the info, lalalinda!I am having the hardest time trying to determine my dominant planet. Astro.com lists it as Uranus, but I am just not seeing it...?But, astro.com also lists my domainant signs to be (1) Scorpio and (2) Sagittarius. This is the first I have learned of mutual reception being applicable by house, so please bear with me. I can see my Uranus being in the 10th house as probably being part of it, but would not my Saturn need to be in my 11th house (instead of my 8th)? Asking for learning purposes... Hmmmm, Saturn vs. Uranus? I suppose it would depend on which you count more "natural tendencies" or "natural desires". Until a few years ago, I would have to say that Saturn / Capricorn had a massive impact on who I was. I had to whole get the house, the career, the guy, the dogs, the money, etc. and magically be happy misconception. Didn't quite work out that way. More recently, I have had to re-evaluate what I truly value and want out of life, and I suppose it has become a great deal more Uranian. I suppose it would be relevant that even before my life jarring introspection and revelations, I was a software engineer, apparently a Uranian occupation. While I suppose it should have appealed to my Uranus (and probably my Saturn), I came to the conclusion that I wanted to help people and not devote my entire life to something that wouldn't really matter five years down the road. I am not sure where exactly that would fit astrologically... LOL!From what I can figure, the massive overhaul of my life as a result of digging deeper to find what I truly want and who I really am was a result of Pluto nearing the end of its transit on my 12th house, which would be another reason that I had figured that Pluto was probably my dominant planet. When I first started looking, I thought perhaps I had hit my Saturn Return 4-5 years early, but Pluto transiting someone's natal 12th house was the best description I could find of my past few years.I really haven't a clue which I feel more, and am not quite certain that it matters. But, I feel this lack of ability to ascertain which is more dominant is inhibiting my learning.lalalindagreat thoughts alchemeFor your Mutual ReceptionSaturn is strong and at home in the 10th house,Uranus is powerful and exalted in the 8th (it is also exalted in Scorpio)My deciding factor in choosing Saturn over Pluto or Uranus was if you use Pluto as conjunct the MC then that too would be a Mutual Reception between Pluto and Saturn.(Saturn/10 Pluto/8)astro.com delineated it (Pluto) conjunct the MC but still put it in the 9th house.
