T O P I C R E V I E WNephthys"Why they always look so serious in yoga? You make serious face like this, you scare away good energy. To meditate, only you must smile. Smile with face, smile with mind, and good energy will come to you and clear away dirty energy. Even smile in your liver."--Ketut, from Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, LoveThe message I got from this is to smile with the whole of your being, every part of your body..........Smiling like this will really calm your entire body.......and let go of any negativity........it's awesome!!! Works for me katatonicparamahansa yoga used to say that smiling was so important (the action actually triggers endorphin production, not just signals it!) that if you couldn't find anything to smile about it was worth the effort to push the corners of your mouth up with your fingers....smile, and the world smiles with you..." some of those silly old songs of the swing generation actually were wiser than i thought when i was a child and thought my parents knew nothing!Nephthys quote:the action actually triggers endorphin production, not just signals it! I love it when animals smile too tuxedomeowThanks, i needed that! Am also learning the smile technique from some gracious North Texas women who smile at every circumstance with a myriad of meanings to the smile...I myself develop "cement face introspection" people will leave when i put on that face and it leaves me feeling too detached. Smile smile smile!Nephthys joanhimuraJust watched this movie..and i LOVE IT and as an indonesian ,i laughed when Ketut speaks "SMILE IN YOUR LIVER".yup, that's my favourite scene. for some people who read/watch it ,will find it kinda confusing and try to make sense of it ,but for Indonesian people,it's just hilarious. so here's the thing, Mr.Ketut obviously isn't fluent in English, you can see it for yourself . bahasa indonesia has a lot of ambiguities... so when he meant in "SMILE in your liver",he actually meant, "Smile in your HEART." Here's why: Hati in Indonesian have several meanings, as the word Heart in English Hati= the liver (organ) Hati = the Heart, not the organ that pumps the blood, but the non-physical one, the center of our feeling. Located in our chest cavity. Hati-hati! = Be careful Hati-hati, = Dear Hearts, while in English, Heart = the organ that pumps the blood (in Indonesian is called "Jantung") Heart = the non-physical one, the center of our feeling. the instruction given in Indonesian is the same: "Bahkan, senyum ke hati juga" which can be interpreted in different meanings: "Even, smile in/to your liver" or "Even, smile in/to your Heart" (http: //www.oprah.com/community/thread/65556)
