I'm glad to see a politician focusing on that. As a runaway I met a lot of runaway kids fleeing not their blood families but foster care where they suffered physical and sexual abuse, even death threats and slavery. Here's a look at the abuse that goes on in foster care:
http://www.liftingtheveil.org/foster04.htm I've met plenty of people who've seen the movie White Oleander and wonder how the character Astrid could be sent to such messed up foster homes, but what they don't realize is that she was LUCKY (though not so much in the book). Many foster kids endure far worse social workers and foster homes than Astrid.
I'm saddened and amazed that we live in a society that's always going on about caring for the children yet children are treated horribly by so many who are supposed to care for them, from their families, the courts, CPS, many orphanages, and more. Oh, yes, foster kids (and I believe children in a Catholic orphanage) got handed over for painful and dangerous medical tests!

It really sucks to be a child.
