T O P I C R E V I E WNickiG i originally posted this in Heathcliffes corner, but i wanted to make sure as many people see this as possiblestarting tomorrow (Dec. 5th) Cumberland County of NC will go under a new ban law: "all “Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs (all bully breeds), Akitas and Huskies” will" be killed.“These dogs will be held for the mandatory 72 hrs and then will be killed, they will not be given a chance to be adopted.” “If the dog is an owner turn-in, he will be killed the second he walks into the back.” http://m.examiner.com/examiner/pm_60899/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=RA8ezjAT please, please, please, save these animals and sign the petition http://www.change.org/petitions/dr-jeannette-m-council-drop-the-72-hour-kill-proposal# these poor, innocent animals do not deserve such a horrible fate------------------I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in historyLEXXThey routinely do that to ALL cats. I saw photo of them dead all stacked 10+ high like cordwood. Must have been 100s. PixieJaneA guy I know told me he once worked at an animal shelter. He said on kill days they'd take a bunch of dogs back there and a bunch of cats (I can't recall if he said it was dogs AND cats, or separately). The dogs were trusting and several would be killed before what was happening sunk into the other dogs and they became very submissive and sad, tipping their tails and begging. That is they realized they were about to be killed, and what amazed him is that they simply submitted and begged rather than fight back. Not even the great dane-St. Bernard fought back when it could've easily taken them all on.He said cats were different. After the first animal was killed, they all became alert, very still, staring, as if aware of what was going on. Unlike the dogs they didn't beg for mercy, and the rare cat would fight tooth and nail so they actually had to use protection. But most cats just seemed to him to either be completely disconnected (showing no reaction to anything as if in shock) or be paralyzed with terror, their eyes wide and bodies unnaturally stiff as they were put down. He said he tried hard to get them to take the animals back there one by one so they wouldn't know that they were about to be killed but the shelter claimed that was too inefficient. I knew then I could never work at a kill shelter. He says decades later it still haunts him. (He also says that's why he can't take the people who say only humans are self-aware or realize they're going to die seriously.) Though interesting how the animals submissively went to their deaths. Plenty of humans submissively go to their deaths when their government comes for them, too, and according to some Russians who escaped Soviet Russia (at least one who escaped Stalinist Russia at that and her story was intense) the ones who went along quietly pretty much convinced themselves it was all a misunderstanding that would be sorted out with no long lasting harm done in the end. The few Russians to escape were the ones who didn't think that (often because they knew others who said that and never came back). I guess that's what the animals that guy described were doing, thinking it was a mistake, that surely it wouldn't end that way. (Well, maybe not the cats.)
