PixieJaneThat reminds me...someone showed me It's a Wonderful Life and I had a few drinks through it so I was buzzed by the end. After seeing it I thought it was my turn to show something the other hadn't seen and showed a Buffy ep...not the Christmas special one (which wouldn't make much sense to someone who wasn't familiar with the series) but seeing a wish turn out so wrong like that when a guy wasn't born reminded me of the Buffy ep: The Wish and since she made me sit through her movie I decided to make her sit through an ep. As both kids liked vampires I went to let them know I was playing if it they wanted to see it (an effect of the spiked eggnog) as they hadn't watched the movie with us (they'd seen it enough times) and the 12-year-old said she'd skip and I said something like "maybe a good thing, it gets on the scary side with blood and torture, not exactly Christmasey" and then asked the then 7-year-old boy warning him it was scary (if I hadn't been buzzed I probably wouldn't have asked him). Saying it was scary made the boy instantly interested. I get back and the girl is there to watch it, too. Hey, if there's blood, torture, and terror then how bad can it be? The kids loved it anyway so I played Doppelgangland, an episode that is a continuation of The Wish. Not what the mom had in mind...but they did love it, and that was their intro to Buffy. New2014testPixieJaneIf you want sentimental, this has always blown my mind and given me some hope for humanity...which is ironic given that WW1 is a terrible indictments against humanity, yet even so they often enjoyed a Christmas Truce which is all the more compelling to me that such would happen in such a dark time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_truce A song that commemorates the 1914 Christmas Truce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWkYmgQu2XY Btw, does anyone recall a paranormal event in either WW1 or 2 in which I believe it was a light swept down over the battlefields (at night, IIRC, and I also think it was near Christmas) which stopped the fighting for awhile with some even seeing visions of the dead, including those they killed that told them the fighting was pointless? I can't recall enough to google it and it was about 15 years ago that I heard about it...I'd like to read up on that again.ETA: looks like this is it: http://beforeitsnews.com/paranormal/2013/09/more-evidence-of-paranormal-events-in-world-war-i-2457252.html Vajra..Healing Mystic MelodyHenry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) Christmas Bells I HEARD the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along The unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Till ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, A chant sublime Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Then from each black, accursed mouth The cannon thundered in the South, And with the sound The carols drowned Of peace on earth, good-will to men! It was as if an earthquake rent The hearth-stones of a continent, And made forlorn The households born Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And in despair I bowed my head; "There is no peace on earth," I said; "For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!" Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail, The Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men." Healing Mystic MelodyLongfellow wrote the above poem after his wife died and his son, who had gone to fight in the U.S. Civil War, was discovered to be missing in action. Having his wife die and thinking his son might be dead too caused him to lose his faith. His son was later found.RandallDidn't know any of that!
