MAKLHOUF | Sorry, moms and dads and wannabes: I can see no way to make allowances for youth, if you also want to deny the processes of aging. A true immortal would never make excuses on the grounds of somebody's age, whether that is a high or low age. ------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 |
Randall | Agreed. |
mirage29 | Sometimes that's hard to remember? I guess if you're an immortal and you remember and have all the wisdom that is good. But there are those who are not at that level and demand or maneuver themselves into positions of authority thinking that they are the wiser ones.Hideous mistakes are made that make things bad or worse for the present society as a whole. |
MAKLHOUF | Yes, it is hard to remember and very problematic, if you can't say: Well so and so is just a kid, it's just his age. And children need protection - is that because they are young or because they are small or because we lie to them about everything?------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 |
mirage29 | I personally try not to lie to children. {{ }} But then myths and stories is how we communicate truths about our world that have been part of the history of whole humankind's existence. The characters mode of dress might change, the scenery drops and curtains switched, but the energy and emotions stay the same. Believing in saints and Santa Claus (or sports figures) helps teach the 'spirit' of things-- like Goodwill, and kind-consideration, and moral virtues that contribute to a winning less dysfunctional Society? |
Randall | In a way, lying to kids to help preserve/extend their childlike wonder seems like not such a bad thing. |
Randall | From Santa to the Easter Bunny to the Tooth Fairy. |

I have long been fascinated by childrens playground games. They seem to be a way for one generation of children to pass on the real truth about the world to another generation of children. ------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 |
Randall | I agree. |
Randall | Many stories in history were passed along verbally through song. |
Randall | With adults also. |
mirage29 | Wasn't a myth, but a song based on the real historic event. (music) The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald(Gordon Lightfoot, lyrics) [6:20] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFkyDB2InTs |
MAKLHOUF | I love Gordon Lightfoot ------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 |
Randall | Me, too. |
juniperb | Me three The legendary shipwreck reached her 40th year last week. Lightfoot was in Michigan to honor the Fitzgerald and sang the song. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.
