"A large Fire can dehydrate or dry out a small amount of Water, with excessive heat. On the other hand, large quantities of Water can extinguish Fire, put out its flames. Therefore, Fire instinctively either fears or respects Water, and vice versa. Both subconsciously sense the danger -- that each is capable of completely destroying the other. The choice lies equally with both individuals."

My thoughts- Water puts out Fire. Fire burns Earth. Earth drains Water. Air doesn't care.

And steam is Water...

(Hence, Water is pretty much unphased by Fire. Which, personally, I find completely true. Earth women and Water women are the only ones that leave me shaken.)

Oh, I wouldn't call it unphased....I'd say pretty much of a complete transformation, even if it IS temporary!

I'm Cancer and my Sag fireman makes it so fun and at the very least interesting, to go through amazing changes all the time. I know, Cancer isn't supposed to like change, but my chart is mostly fire so maybe that accounts for it.

It's a fine line to walk with the water and fire.

I am fire and I have a very close water friend. Sometimes I am able to warm him up a lot before he starts to burn. not sexually, but friendly...

Conversely, if I am in a tempest, consummed by the things that fire consumes...the cool water is so nice...

However, when it comes to emotions with each other, its a harder blend. i have to not push too much and he has to not push me away to much.

I agree that water SEEMS unphased by fire, but fire is definately phased by water. I guess sometimes, like in "paper, scizzors and rock", the weaker-seeming is actually the most powerful.

My dh and my best friend are virgos. at the end of the day, and in my darkest hours, i love the grounding forces of the earth people.they are always THERE. they never change.

CrabbyKitty- Do you have any Gemini placements? Moon? Mercury? Venus? Mars? I could then definitely understand how a Sag would effect you. I'm always seeing how Oppositions are so very powerful for attraction.

Otherwise, you may be right about all of that Fire in your chart being the cause...

SW, nope. No air anywhere except True Node in Libra. I mis-stated the "mostly fire" thing. I actually have Leo in Merc, Mars and Uranus, but have Virgo Moon, Venus and Pluto. And then a singleton Cap and Scorp. So, pretty even between the fire and earth. I think the Virgo makes me a little neurotic, but the Leo makes me in your face about it.

I don't really react or behave like a cancerian. Randall wrote on another thread that some astrologers think your rising (oh, yeah - Leo) sign is what defines who you are most of all. In my case I agree with him.

Weird about no air signs - my parents are both gemini and my siblings are both libra.

Okay..nerd in me has to state the following -

"Hence, Water is pretty much unphased by Fire."

Wrong.. because steam is the precurser phase before the water molecule is broken up and distributed as Hydrogen and Oxygen. They float through the air to bond with other molecules to form new compounds. When the conditions are right, the hydrogen and two oxygens will combine to once again form water.

If it stayed as steam can you imagine what our houses would be like after a hot steamy shower? Talk about humid, mold and other icky vermin that would show up

Okay.. nerd girl must leave now..

PS... I love my Leo's hubby's water moon (Pisces) it goes well with my Aries moon

Water and fire are very attracted to each other. I actually know plenty of water/fire couples that seem much deeper to me than many others, starting with mum Leo and step dad Cancer.. There's no two people I know, more right for each other.. He does have a Leo Mars and Asc though.

Then there are family friends who I've known my whole life, Pisces and Aries who have lasted like 20 years.

My sis, Pisces and her husband, Leo are a very cute couple. They've only been together a few years but they are very close.

My auntie - Aries and Scorpio uncle.. They've also been together agesssss, since before I was born.

My great grandma, and my great grandpa, were married for 60 years.. He was Cancer, she was Leo.

Conjunctions are pretty intense in synastry and there’s always a higher chance to have conjunctions (Mercury/Venus) with the sign next to you.. which for water can be either fire or air.. for fire it can be either water or earth..

Signs adjacent to each other often make for long lasting marriages, once they actually commit.

Right, steam is a PRECURSOR to the breakdown of the molecule. Steam isn't the breakdown itself.

Water vapor is still water... nothing changes molecularly when water vaporizes... just like nothing changes molecularly when water freezes...

Its extremely difficult to break up a water molecule, and relatively much easier to put out a fire. Only when water is literally trapped and then heated to over 2000 degrees Celsius does it break down. Takes one hell of a serious effort to achieve...

Water boils and *poof* we escape.

hee hee..no no.. it is quite easy to break up the water molecule if you know how.. and being a wonderfully full of Fire Saggie, I do know how.. that is why I studied how to best boil water without getting "put out".

As a bit of history- it could be due to my upbringing -my mother is a Cancer Sun / Cancer Moon / Scorpio rising- with several other planets in the water elements.

My dad is a Cappy Sun /Moon, Mars and Saturn in Cancer.

My brother has a Scorp Moon / Saturn in Cancer and a Pisces rising(but he has Sun / Merc in Saggie and Mars in Aries). - He married a Scorp woman, has a Scorp sun as well as an Aqua Sun with a Scorp moon.

LOL... I am surrounded by water Even my honey has a Water moon / Saturn with his Sun in the 12th house.

For me... well, I have only Neptune, Jupiter and Mars in a water sign and my mars is only at 1 degree Pisces.

What one should also think about is the actual amount of water that is needed to put out fire. It only takes a slow flame to eventually get water to boil, but a slow stream onto a hot flame will turn to steam.

Very intriguing - no?

Hmmm... do you know what would be a cool science experiment? We could look at the constant rate of temperature applied to water to make it boil and then evaporate. At the same time, we look at the equivalent amount of water over time to make a fire go out.

Which would happen first I wonder?

Boiling water or steam is just an energised state of water, so leo transfers energy to water and through time, water must release this energy. In reality the person might get irrate or feel energised for a while (until maybe breaking point).

And yes, water to be broken down usually requires something like electrolysis - maybe thats Aqu!!

As for leos and cancers etc involved, we should remember that as mentioned before, there are aspects, houses etc to be looked at. As well as points such as nodes, vertex etc. Obviously for things to work that long, there must be this stuff.

I made a thread about this before..but I do find it interesting that astrology keeps using the old elements.. water/air/fire/earth.. we've known for a long time now that *matter* can be found in many forms which do not fit that theory..

The most popular phases of matter are solid, liquid, gas and plasma.. but there are others..

I still think astrology is outdated in this way. I don't believe water signs are ONLY watery.. everything that is liquid matter could go under water.. Everything that is solid matter could go under earth.. Everything that is gas could go under air signs and everything that is plasma could go under fire (which would include electricity)

:edit:

I find this interesting:

Earth is solid so I’m pretty sure it would fall under the solid state..

Water is often referred to in the sciences as the universal solvent and the only pure substance found naturally in all three states of matter

Air = the mixture of gases present in the Earth's atmosphere. A gas is one of the four main phases of matter

Fire is NOT a state of matter: rather, it is an exothermic chemical reaction usually accompanied by intense heat released during a rapid oxidation of combustible material. Fire may be visible as the brilliant glow and flames and may produce smoke.

It doesn’t make sense to split signs in equal elements.. but one of them is *not* actually a state of matter.. I think it’s a bit inconsistent..

So I find plasma more plausible for *fire signs*…

All matter in the Sun is in the form of gas and plasma because of its high temperatures. This makes it possible for the Sun to rotate faster at its equator (about 25 days) than it does at higher latitudes (about 35 days near its poles).

Lauren - you're right. Water is just the most simplest thing to think about.

In the present discussion, using your extrapolations, all liquids have boiling points and plasma generate heat.

And bad air people are farts nyuk nyuk

Hmmmm, I like the steam theory. My guy has a sag stellium that works perfectly fine with me....hehehe (he has a water sun and moon). The weird thing is that sag is the fire sign I can handle, the other two are just too much for me.

I also have this water/fire conflict thingy going on in my own chart. (I think there was a thread on this before). Because I have a aries mars that is trine my cancer sun but still doesn't always work well with my cancer sun or the rest of my chart for that matter. I may be the quiet type in real life but if I get upset my temper skyrockets. Luckily I have earth to ground me.

Okay Pid, what method of molecule break-up are you speaking of? Is it relevant to fire? Because if it isn't, then it isn't relevant to this conversation.

Like I said, as far as Fire is concerned, the temperature necessary to break up a water molecule is never reached on the surface of the Earth, and therefore, not relevant to all things astrological.

So, since temperature wise, water needs 2000 degrees Celsius to break down molecularly, then only in Earth's molten core, in labs, and the surface of stars can fires get hot enough to break up water via heat. (according to my sources, housefires top out at 1,300 degrees, volcanic lava is about 1,400 max.)

And Pid, again, why are you talking about boiling water? Boiled water is still water!! A PHYSICAL change does not equate to a CHEMICAL change...

Fire might be able to boil water away..
Water might be able to extinguish fire..

But a human being with a fire sun sign is NOT a forest fire..
A human being with a water sun sign is NOT an ocean.. *forest fires and oceans cannot communicate*
(and even if we were, WHY would we be trying to 'destroy' each other anyway? What a silly way to react to differences. Oh no we're different elements.. LETS annihilate each other.. double or debate over who can annihilate who quicker.. Shouldn't we be fighting over who would be more likely to do the right thing.. learn and compromise from differences, rather than launch wars? Why is it that annihilating seems like the "cool" thing to do all of the sudden, while compromise is geeky..)

Astrologically, we are a mixture of different elements.. Every chart has 12 houses, Every chart contains a number of signs and elements.. Every single chart has some focus however small on every single SIGN.

If for instance, a person is a Cancer with a Leo Mercury.. and they meet an Aquarius with a Pisces Mercury.. The Pisces Mercury may in theory, *drown* the Leo Mercury.. in conversation.. They’d could be overly quiet which would make a fire Mercury feel awkward, so the enthusiasm normally felt when making conversation might not be there with this Aquarius..

Though, in the same vein.. the Aquarius person could also have a Cancer Mars, supporting the Cancer person's sun.. so while they may feel drowned in conversation, they could find physical activity with the Aquarian rewarding..
