I've always noticed that Saturn seems to have pretty much of a bad reputation. Like for instance today an astrologer visited my house, my sister asked him to interpret her chart and he then proceeded to tell her how unlucky she was and how her fate was doomed because *GASP* Transiting Saturn is conjunct her Sun .So this kind of negetive attitude really got me thinking, I've about six planets in Capricorn which makes Saturn my ruler so I thought I'd write a nice little defend post for Saturn based on what I've experienced. Its truly not such a bad planet from my Capricorn biased point of view . Read on for my interpretation.

Normally Saturn is said to rule Karma cause it rules the 10th house, which supposedly means "destiny" or summat .
I'll mostly talk about the good side of saturn since I'm sure there's loads written about the bad side of it. Anyways I prefer to call Saturn as the "discipliner" , its the planets of rules, structure, discipline. It disciplines you in the sense. Your Jupiters all "I've worked so hard today Lets go play till night" Saturn would be all " Really? what do you call hard? Sorry but I don't think thats a good idea. You've homework to complete and you've a test tommorow.. Nope you're not going anywhere until you finish what you've to do". Or suppose say your friends are doing drugs and they are pressurizing you, Saturn would be like "No. No. No. No. Absolutely not, have you gone mad??" In that sense its negetive, but beneficial. Its also kind of karmicish, in the sense that if you do something bad (like take drugs or whatever or not study for your test) it'll have bad consequences and when you work hard for your test or exam, you'll get good marks, therefore good consequences.

Saturn also rules career because if you've a job or a career, you're ultimately depending on yourself, and Saturns aim is to teach you how to take care of yourself and that means not partying every single day and wasting it. And thats why its also called ruler of self-control, you've to control your urges sometimes (Ex:- You're allergic to nuts, but you feel like eating nuts badly, but shouldn't since its bad for you), which would be beneficial for you. So in this way saturn transits kind of bring about growth and maturity in character. Its like a wise old teacher.

Its bad in the way, sometimes you need to enjoy life and express yourself and just damn the torpedoes, in that way Saturn kind of limits you.

So those are my views of Saturn, what are your views??? How has Saturn helped you in life???

PS:- Yes I know, my interpretation seems quite informal and childish, but thats the way I express myself.

Now listen, I know you've got to think about your image, cause image is important to you, because of course your friends are gonna dictate your actions through the rest of your lives, and I wouldn't want you to step away from them and become an individual, that would almost be too much!

Personally, call me a little biased...but when channeled correctly (like Neptune) it can become a powerful aspect of ones' personality; benefic. Anything (well, any aspect) when mis-channeled can become malefic.

Saturn, is about restrictions, conformity...yet, when channeled correctly it can become a 'driving' force; strong-will...a sort of self-discipline to succeed.

Saturn is the second most aspected/ powerful planet in my chart (according to, "Pullen Astrolog" on astro.com); Venus being my most aspected/ powerful. Plus, I have four planets in Capricorn...so its' power rank is #1 in my chart.

Personally, I do associate 'saturn' with some sort of struggle (whether it be responsibilities, 'karma', or something else that is 'heavy' in ones' life) but in the end, it is up to the person...either to succumb or to 'face' these challenges head on.

heh...I'm not much help. Just some 'food' for thought.

Amelia, aww that was a quick reply. About expressing your opinions, no no, its fine this is exactly the kind of input I like .

I never really thought about planets in that "channelizing" type of way but I can see where you are coming from and your viewpoint seems quite practical too as energy is neutral and the way you utilize it determines how positive/negative it is. Thanks for your food for thought. Quite helpful for me, as I'm an astrology beginner (well not really, but I haven't really gone down to interpretations and the likes).

heh. No probelmo, cappyme. I mean, I can see why saturn is "gloomy" and 'heavy' to some people...but, really; it's what you make out of it.

The gloomier you think it is; well...the more that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Believe me, I wish 'Saturn' was more like 'Jupiter' but it's not, and it is just something I have accepted...and so I'll make the best out of it.

Anywho, I'm probably...going 'off topic'. Just waiting for others' to respond, so...

*bump* lol.

eatbooks: Exactly. But this is not the only astrologer I've seen talk bad about Saturn. I know a few people who tell me to get ready for some rotton luck when I've a Saturn transit.

rotten luck? sshesh, who speaks that way? i know a lot of people have kids, get married, etc.. during saturn conjunction their suns, hardly rotten luck...i dont see it that way, i see saturn/sun transits as a time to shape up and be more grown up, good transits to make you more seriousminded...yes they suck, but i dont like how some of these "astrologers" would go as far to say they are "bad luck"....i would of been very upset if they had said that to me....

Just finished watching 'Little Miss Sunshine.' Steve Carrell's character says this about Marcel Proust (kinda reminds me of Saturn transits):
quote:
He gets down to the end of his life... and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered- Those were the best years of his life, 'cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn't learn a thing.

Maybe I give my natal Saturn aspects too much flack. I have a Moon/Sun/Saturn T-square. Saturns squares the ASC too. I guess it whips my ego into shape. Without Saturn, I think I'd be immensely lazy and hedonistic (for real... been reading the Venus opp Jupiter interp and yes, I'm guilty of it on many an occasion). tSaturn has been going through my 1st house for awhile. Can't say I'm the same person I was some yrs ago. Anyway, I kinda feel like the boy in that movie---wish I could've skipped some odd teenage yrs and gotten thrown straight into adulthood. But we need the 'Saturnizing' first, huh?

My brother has Saturn in his first house. He's a workaholic. His life is practically wrapped around his job. He said he feels truly alive when he's working. He's probably the most hardworking person I know. He just has strong willpower and energy. I mean, compared to me, our friends are always like, "You are his sister? Really?" Well it's kind of awkward to have an overachiever brother and an underachiever sister under the same roof.

Now, he also has Jupiter in the 1st House. He's not at all a wet blanket, he knows how to have fun. As they say, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." But he also has a strong sense of moral, responsibility, LIMITS. And he's assertive. I guess that's where Saturn plays the part. When things go wrong, you can always count on him. He's just tough, you know. Steady. But also caring and fun to be around (that's Jupiter, I guess).

He's definitely an awesome brother.

I personally like Saturn although sometimes the transits can be a bit depressing when it comes to aspects but I always find that is because I'm not getting the hang of what Saturn wants me to do yet. I love how it attempts to teach self-control. I also tend to use it as a benefit to learn about something, sometimes the hard negative things are the best learning experiences.

The only beef I have with Saturn is how it sometimes causes drudgery, but that too passes.
