What placements and aspects do you think can indicate narcissism in a person? I know a female who is so beautiful and attractive, and she cannot really love anyone (I mean romantically) because she loves herself too much. What she finds attractive in other men is how much they are attracted to her. She cannot love a man for who he is, only by how much he is interested in her. She is a libra with leo moon and gemini rising (mercury in scorpio in 5th). Venus in leo square mars in scorpio. My dad is also a narcisist but in a different way. He is always thinking about himself and how smart he is. He does need a person to always be telling him how great he is and how much they admire him. He is capricorn, scorpio moon and gemini rising (mercury in capricorn in 7th). Do you think that maybe deep down, narcisists are insecure and that's why they need to feel desired and admired all the time? Or is it that they just love themselves too much? IP: Logged |

Post the charts, lets have a look.Maybe it is self love, too much self love. Although you say they can be insecure, which means they do not love themselves. Difficult. quote:
Narcissism describes the trait of excessive self-love, based on self-image or ego.
Excess is Jupiter. Self, Mars. Love, Venus. IP: Logged |

narcissism is a messed up insecure love where the person is unable to relate on an intimate level to another due to not knowing how to "know" himself.that which one can't see in oneself; one can never see in another! http://www.freud.org.uk/narcissism.html "Tiresias answers enigmatically: he can live long, 'unless he learns to know himself The paradox turns on the fatal word unless. The terrible dilemma of the narcissist is thus elegantly summarised. Either the narcissist remains trapped for ever in the shadow world of self-love, or he is released from the bondage of self-unknowing (and by implication being unable to know others), but on price of death. Although the narcissist thinks only of himself, ironically he can never really know himself, since he cannot take a position outside himself and see himself as he really is. If he could accept that beauty fades then his loveliness would be something to celebrate; by grandiosely denying the reality of loss and change, beauty is transformed into monstrosity." IP: Logged |

It's a comforting thought that deep down they might be insecure but they might really be that immodest. No disrespect, TripleC, but you might also be biased on the basis that you have to listen to their cr@p all the time. Are they narcissistic to the point of personality disorder or just the average self-absorbed big-heads? Astrologically I think you are going to be looking at a complex pattern on the whole of the chart. No one aspect or sign is going to be to blame. Maybe factors could include a large group of planets in one place (concerned with one area of life) some tension with Jupiter (overblown, exaggerated), tension with the Sun (self-absorbed). Venus in Leo likes to be basked in attention but on a good day the other common tags they get is loyal and generous. I can think of a Virgo Sun, Venus Leo who would do anything for anyone. So we can't just blame that one position it we are being fair. IP: Logged |

Well, my brother is a narcissist! LOL. I love him but when he pulls his narcissistic tendencies-I always give him eye rolling responses. He has a stellium in the first house. (Moon, Uranus and Jupiter) and Pluto conjunct the ascendant...IP: Logged |

If narcissists really did love themselves, they wouldn't have to make such a blatant show of it. I think how you love yourself is reflected in your relationships with others, because you will attract what it is that you already feel internally... if a narcissist is treating other people badly, that's how they feel about themselves... a true narcissist will very often blatantly project their own fears/self-hatred onto other people. I think it's slightly different to merely 'having a big ego'...IP: Logged |

Lara, that's interesting: not knowing how to know themselves. I hadn't thought of it that way. BM, I think my dad might have some type of personality disorder. I always thought he was so strange (most people think so). He gets so caught in his thoughts that he loses notion of his surroundings. I'll talk to him and it's like he becomes deaf, doesn't listen or hear me. It's not neurological, I think it's psycological. He has awful social skills. You're probably right. It's complex and the whole chart has to be taken into account. For example, I also know a guy with Virgo Sun and Venus in Leo and he is very selfish, not like the person you know. So yeah, the whole chart has to be seen. The other person I think is just a self absorbed big head. Here are the two charts. The first is the female I mentioned and the second is my dad's. Generally speaking, Most Virgo's are narcisists because they are self centered and self absorbed ... They are also in love with their own image.<<<Looks in the mirror and kisses his own reflection ... God I am so hot. IP: Logged |

No I am a very modest person, I dislike the limelight and being the center of attention along with praise, I also tend to play down my achievments.Fortunately, I dont come across like that at all though and I love it. IP: Logged |

His Sun conjunct Mercury is house rulers 1 an 3, which can describe an intelligent person, good with communicating. Both of these are square to Neptune, which explains the following what you say.... quote:
He gets so caught in his thoughts that he loses notion of his surroundings
Neptune is the losing bit. Square can be pretty bad. Excessive daydreaming is another result, more like a catatonic, but not quite as severe. His social skills are 11th house, I think. 1st and 11th rulers are Qunicunx, which isnt the best aspect. IP: Logged |

I found out something interestingI was looking for information on Narcissus. I found out there were saints named Narcissus. the first one that I found was Narcissus,a Christian marytr who was put to death for refusing to perform military service. it turns out his feast is on January 2nd,and that happens to be my father's birthday. then I checked out St. Narcissus of Jerusalem. He was a bishop. It turns out his feast is on October 29th,my birthday. that's weird that there are 2 saints named Narcissus that have their feasts on the birthdays of my father and me. IP: Logged |

I prefer the myth of Narcissusthe most beautiful youth who was a heartbreaker, and scorned loved with any woman. a heartbroken nymph prayed a curse on him "May he who loves not others love himself" which nemesis granted. so when he bent over a river side to get a drink of water he fell in love with his reflection. and there he died by the river not wanting to leave his loveliness. the most beautiful nymph echo who was in love with him wanted to help him but couldnt due to a curse on her from Hera, allowing her only to speak what has already been spoken to her. so as he was dying by the river he wished his reflection farewell and all Echo could do was wish him a loving goodbye. sad there is a flower named after the myth though havent seen it. is it beautiful?
