After much research, I am coming to the conclusion that the reason dif house systems seem to work for different things is that there is a fundamental confusion in astrology. Koch and equal house systems seem to be most accurate for transits and predictive work while others like placidus are seen as more psychologically revealing. I think this is based on a misunderstanding as to where the MC axis fits in the chart. The MC axis is a very important one but it is not the cusp of the 4th and 10th houses. It is similar to the nodal, vertex and east point axes in that they are not structurally part of the house system - do not represent house cusps - but represent important axes of growth and development. All of those axes represent important psychological polarities in our psyche but do not interfere with the structure of the chart.

The MC is our adult ascendant. An externalized and mature mode we use in interacting with society, other adults in the professional, social or community domain. It is the mature self. In the equal system, it is found in the outer houses because as adults we grow to interact with larger domains of life than as children. All the outer houses represent different parts of that mature development. Not just the 10th house. The 10th house is about service to society, traditional roles like fatherhood and family provider. The MC is the summation of much more than the 10th house and includes the 9th-12th or even the 7th-12th houses. Houses that come into play in adulthood. The MC is not just a public point, it is essential in relationships with other adults bec it is our adult self that functions spiritually (12th house) with various community groups and adult associations (11th house) in our career (10th house) and as students of life (9th house). It does not belong exclusively on the cusp of the 10th but as a free floating point which does not dictate the structure of the chart.

The only house system to make sense at northern and southern lattitudes is equal. I have found it to be extremely accurate for transits as well as personality description. It does not make sense that a house system would work in one part of the world but not in others. Equal solves that with its universality.

Hi Bucket

I now only use equal house system. I find it much more accurate for natal/synastry/composite/davison and transits.

Glad to see a thread like this up as it is interesting to see what others think.

That's a very interesting theory.

My MC is in Pisces and in Equal house it's in my 9th house.

Although not directly related to your question the title got my attention as I have 4 planets in 10th house and lots of aspects to an aquarian (astrology) midheaven.
I used Placidus house system until a UK astrologer said to use the Koch one and that seems to make more sense to interpretations. The mother is reflected in the 10th whereas the father is the 4th (this may cause some discussion!).
I read somewhere that the 10th point is the highest point and so is supposed to be the best energy that can be brought out unless afflicted. I would agree with this.
