Saturn conjunct the Sun, especially if Saturn is a couple of degrees ahead of the Sun. Each degree would represent a year (by progression) so if Saturn is 2 degrees ahead of the Sun it will take 2 years for the aspect to reach exact and could show the death of the father at age 2.

There will be several strong aspects to this, the Sun conjunct Saturn alone is not enough.
The 10th/4th house will also be afflicted.

I read somewhere that Pluto in the 4th can indicate 'early loss of father' - which has actually happened to me in two respects - once when my dad returned to Japan before i was born, and a second time when i was 10 and my adoptive dad died.

Tho I am sure you will equally find loads of people with this placement that it hasn't happened to even once, so try not to dwell on it and worry.

This has proven itself for me and so many birth charts I have read. It is always an absence of some sort, sometimes emotionally, but usually physical, like the dad leaving the child with the mom at an early age and never showing up again. My 14 year old has her aqua sun in the 8th, and her dad took his own life when she was 9...

i don't have any of the mentioned placements, etc. but my dad hasn't been "in my life" since I was about 6 and my mom died in 1998 - we were separated from one another since i was about 9 or 10 but got together in 1996-1998. the thing is - my relationship with either parent wasn't "stable" at all. i don't think it ever was.

In some literature, there seems to be some disagreement over whether the 4th and 10th houses are the mother and father respectively (that's the 'traditional' view, isn't it..?), or whether these should be the other way round in some respects.

(Confused? I am! Maybe someone in the know like Tim can clarify..?)

I always thought 10th was father/career, but that particular reading of Pluto in the 4th seems to indicate the opposite.. (it also suggests regular domestic upheavals and problems with plumbing apparently.. Mamma Mia, does the friend you mentioned also have these? I haven't really yet ...but there's still time )

Found this quote on the fourth/parents:

My thought on it is the 4th house represents the "nurturing parent" and the 10th house represents the "structuring parent". Notice that today, with the lack of "traditional" roles, a parent can switch back and forth between these two roles. For example, a mother could be kind and gentle to her son after he skinned his knee (nurturing), and then send the boy to his room as punishment once she finds out he skinned his knee because he started a fight (structuring)!

I have a problem with associating one person to each of these areas all the time, since a chart only represents how we the person SEES the world, not how the world actually "is". A very strict father could seem to be "nurturing" to one person; while a very kind, gentle mother could seem strict and "structuring" to another person. As a result, I think of the 4th house as where (and with whom) we seek "comfort" and the 10th house as where (and with whom) we "face the world".

My sister has Sun in the 8th and she and father were never close, she felt emotionally abandoned by some of our family because of her dark hair and eyes.

My moon is in the 8th (which made for some moody drama with sister and I)
My mother and I don't speak at all, as we were never close. I realized she would never stop drinking and have tried to cut her out of my life since. I never speak of her or to anyone about her. To me she is considered gone.

My sister is motherly enough with two children and she worries all the time, is stable. I know I did the right thing as I have met others with terrible mothers and the relationship is destructive.

So if that helps, I say yes the Pluto in the 4th has been accurate with others I have looked at, and Sun in the 8th is always at least fiercely independent and able to take care of him or herself. Sun in the 8th likes to have children and take care others not the other way around.

I could say a ton about my sister and I, her sun in the 8th, me moon in the 8th and mothers. Moon in the 8th likes order and structure without having to create it-so Mothers have to be strong and structured. Sun in the 8th wants to be boss in the world and can accept chaos at home.

maybe mars squaring or opposing a planet you may have in scorpio?

maybe the moon thingamagig in 8th house

how about mars in the 4th house or mars in scorpio for people who have lost a parent? i saw that a few times or uranus in scorpio in 4th.

there were a some more aspects i noted but i lost it - forgot to hit save. this is like - my fourth draft.
