1)What should it be?

2)Can one extend the orb to 10/12 degrees if it is between an angle (Ascdnt/MC) and a luminary(sun/moon)??

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Some astrologers use 5 degree orb for righthand conjunction (i.e. technically the planet is in the preceding house) and 10 degree orb for lefthand conjunction (the planet is in the anglular house).

I use 5 degree for both, but 10 degree for lefthand conjunction for luminaries.

Nasya,

Orbs are highly personal to each astrologer and differ from astrologer to astrologer. The simplest way to see if the orb you describe works is to interpret the chart as if the aspect were in orb. If the chart makes sense to the person whose chart it is, then the orb applies. If not, then it probably doesn't.

Orbing,

Tim

These are the orbs astro.com uses:

I've seen a 10 deg orb to be the maximum on a lot of sites for conjunctions and oppositions, mainly when it involves Sun/Moon..but I agree with Tim, you can only tell whether or not it's there if it applies to the person.

There are other things that can make an aspect important, even if the orb is large, for instance if one of the planets is on an angle or a singleton.. or if you have a chart type that makes that particular aspect stand out, or if that is the only aspect made by a certain planet...

good question

the rule is with luminaries up to 15 degrees (I know it sounds like to much but...)

what I do is if the planet is exalted or ruled by, I will use a wide orb, this is because by sign you will have a certain amount of that signs traits anyway.

example: Moon 12 Taures and Venus 24 Taures I would consider this a conjunction (Moon/exalted and Venus/home)

or Jupiter 1 Sag and the Asc. 19 Sag
this too would fall into my conjunction category being that Sag is ruled by Jupiter.

Both of the above examples are technically minor aspects but because of "rulerships" it dignifies the position and makes them prominate.

Hm, I have Mars close on the DC and don't want this anymore. Some place where I might move puts my Mars 5,5 degrees away from the DC, but in the angular house.. My Jupiter is then on my DC though, so would that soften or make the Mars energy more positive if still close enough to the DC?
