Hi guys,

Have you tried the Porphyry house system and if so, what do you think of it?

I read a book about 'spiritual astrology' and they used the Porphyry system there.

I don't know what the new perspective of this house system would be (I usually use equal houses, but I guess they all work overlapping each other somehow). This system didn't give anything new to me really.

What's the porphyry system supposed to show? All it did was it moved my Jupiter back into the previous house.

I don't really know what it is supposed to show and why they chose to use that system. Maybe there is a reason, but sometimes it seems that the choice of house systems is just a personal preference for a number of reasons (?).

But since the Porphyry is listed in astro.com, it must have been around for some time.

Because of the accuracy of the Placidus system when working with a truly accurate Asc, I have not tried Poryphyry. Poryphyry is an arbitrary equalization of the quadrant arc between each of the three houses in that quandrant. Alan Leo described it as a "rough and ready" method precisely because it lacks the necessary precision, but is usually 'close enough.'

To emphasize the accuracy of Placidus (between latitudes 66° north/south), I am able to use its cusps in declination in some chart rectifications and/or refine interpretations to a fine point based on planetary parallels to those cusps. That just does not happen consistently with any other house system.
