I was wondering which placements or aspects would indicate a person who is particularly interested in animal welfare, kindness to animals etc. I have always been an animal lover - wanted to be a vet when I was younger, have always had pets, and have always wanted to rescue and adopt unwanted animals. Lately I've been thinking about becoming a foster carer for sick, abused or unwanted animals. Two celebrities I can relate to in their passion for helping animals are Morrissey (he's known for being a vegan and being very vocal against animal cruelty) and Brigitte Bardot (who has campaigned against animal cruelty in France, set up her own foundation for the protection of animals, and since her youth has adopted many animals who all live in a really big yard). Morrissey is a Gemini with Scorpio moon, but I don't know his birth time. Brigitte Bardot is a Libra with Sag rising.

So, what should I be looking for when it comes to this aspect of a person's personality? Which planets, signs, houses? Are there asteroids, Arabic Parts?

Verrry good question!

Well, I think everyone has the capacity to be kind to animals. It's humanity's destiny to be compassionate to all creatures, both great and small. But I do think there are things in a person's chart that can make someone more likely to take an interest in animals, aside from social conditioning.

My friend is vegan and into animal rights. Her chart:

I'm not sure where to start looking. Venus? Moon?

Btw, GeminiLover, you rock! You should totally foster animals... they need kind and considerate people like you.

Unfortunately I've heard of this about other boys too, but they didn't grow up to be cruel to animals. I'm not sure I want to go into what makes a person do this (lack of empathy or whatever) but let's just say I don't like it. Sigh. I don't want this to turn into a controversy thread.

You know, it's possible that Libra people (whether Sun, Moon, Venus or Rising, etc) are very much into animals since the sign values beauty and compassion. Libras are very much for anything non-vulgar and always try to be diplomatic.

I'm not sure if that would alsp apply to Taureans since they're also ruled by Venus.

That was a huge generalization but I'm just throwing it out there.

Thank you, Sarai! Unfortunately my flat/apartment isn't appropriate, but my bf (who I refer to on this forum as 'Mr Gemini') and I are planning to get our own place next year where there will be plenty of room for animals.

Oh! My sister is a Cancerian with Leo rising like your friend, and she is also vegan. She's kind to animals too. And yes your right, I think the ability for compassion and kindness is 'built in' to most people, but for some people we are extra passionate about helping animals. So that's what I'm looking for in this thread... hmm, your friend is a Taurus moon and I'm a Taurus sun...

One's attitudes toward animals and other living things is based mostly on conditioning. SeeingStars remarked that what he did as a child was what other boys did suggesting that because they were boys. Sort of playing into the whole "snips, snails, puppy dog tails" thing.

Peer pressure is another factor to take into consideration. Some of the dumbest actions were done under peer pressure.

Known psychopathic/sociopathic killers have a history of abuse and violence. A child has to be shown and taught compassion and love in order to relay it to other beings. Of course, there are those children who seemed to have been born with the innate wisdom of extending kindness to all things but they are rare. It was probably one of those wise childs that started the animal rights movement.

Your friend is a Cancer stellium in the 11th house... strongly water-influenced people can be empathetic, and with those planets in the 11th house her empathy could be involved with group causes.

I'm a grand water trine so I'm very emotional and empathetic. I was reading about animal abuse cases on the SPCA website this morning and I pretty much bawled my eyes out.

So, so far I've noticed that your friend and I share a predominance of water and we also have Taurus luminaries. Not sure which direction this is all going to go in, and maybe I won't arrive at a conclusion - but these are my initial observations...

GeminiLover: So maybe Venusian energy is something to look at since you also have Taurus!

Cancers are known for their love of animals, I think. I've always been crazy about them. I used to rescue stray dogs in Montreal. Now I live with my bf and we're adopting a dog from the shelter next year! I'm sooooo excited.

You have to let us know how your new place works out.

I know... my friend is always sending out these emails with articles and videos of animal rights issues. She also sends out recipes for vegan dishes. I go to many vegan restaurants and cook vegan; I'm veg because of her pretty much.

She tries not to get upset but with certain stories out there, you can't help but cry. You should be proud that you do cry for the animals. I used know some people who laughed at animal abuse.

P.S. You should post your chart here for analysis.

Aww, that's so cool Sarai! All the best with that... how wonderful that you've also helped animals. Please post pics of your doggie once you've adopted it! I saw two doggies on the SPCA website this morning... their names are Mork and Mindy and I would love to adopt them... it's such a shame that I can't right now!

How about Jupiter placements or aspects? Could we say that Jupiterian generosity and idealism is sometimes a part of this?

I will post pics. I'll probably try and analyze the poor dog's chart! And rising sign! hehehehe.

Yes, Jupiter should definitely be looked at. What do you think of Uranus? Where in the chart would "new ideas" and "activism" be found?

Mork, a bichon cross. Looks to me like a bichon frise/yorkshire terrier cross?

Mindy, a Jack Russel/chihuahua cross.

Small dogs aren't usually my favourites, but there's just something about these two.

And sure, I'll post my chart soon...

Aha! I would look at the 11th house for new ideas and activism. My moon and Uranus are both in the 11th house. Aquarius/Uranus about humanitarianism, BUT maybe we could describe this more as wanting to help others, either human or animal?

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! SO CUTE. This is where I really have trouble understanding cruelty to animals. Why would you take enjoyment in hurting someone else?

My friend wants to get involved with Farm Sanctuary (farmsanctuary.org) and a lot of emails she sends mentions stories of the factory farmed animals they rescue. People always forget about them.

Boy those two are cute. I see what you see in them.

Yeah I'm having trouble. Maybe I deleted it from my webspace... I'll fix it in the next 10 minutes.

But yessss, Mork and Mindy are just so cute. Who would possibly want to hurt them? Who could hurt kittens, puppies, ducklings? Even the 'less cute' animals... not only the cute ones deserve respect.

Ooh, you have Moon and Uranus?? Wow, yeah, there you go. 11th house flavoring defintely would indicate something like kindness toward animals. Especially with your Moon and Uranus placed there.

You and my friend are probably very similar.

Exactly right. My friend is always saying that even within the population of people who care for animals, they only seem to care for the "cute" ones. But no one ever really thinks of the sharks or other not as "cute" creatures that also inhabit this world. You should see a documentary called Sharkwater when it comes to your city.

I'm scared of sharks, spiders, and snakes... but they are all play their part in the earth's ecosystem - so cute or not, they should be protected. Despite my spider phobia, I put them outside rather than kill them - if it's a really big spider that I'm too scared to touch, I get someone else to put it outside. lol

You also have Pluto in 11th. That placement is a definite for social activism. Your 11th house is a busy one.

I really like your chart, though. Your 5th house is also busy, which is interesting because the 5th and 11th houses are opposite each other. They're also both Succedent Houses (where you develop things... ideas).

Your friend has Jupiter conjunct Uranus aspecting Venus and the ascendant. I wonder if that's relevant. Jupiter is my chart ruler, and my natal Jupiter aspects Venus (in the sixth house - service to others?).
