Just wondering. Never heard it mentioned but stumbled on the wiki article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Attractor

http://cabiz.net/zolaric/greatattractor.htm

quote:
Sedgwick, a Scorpio, adds, "It is the ultimate Sagittarian statement of leave me alone, don't crowd my space, coming into the most extreme."

People born with the Sun, Moon, ascendant or another important planet close to, or aspecting, this point will often find that they have a polarizing effect on people around them, making unusually close friends and intense enemies as well. They can give the impression that they hold the key to the mystery of the universe, correctly or not.

"The perception is that people on the Great Attractor have unusual appeal or potency. They find themselves in vast circles, accidentally. Or they have impacted masses of people and think they have created no influence in their lives whatsoever," he said.

My neptune sits near it and it makes many aspects to my mystic rectangle.

quote:
Among the many strange marvels of the sign that contains the galactic center is another galactic point called the Great Attractor, located at about Sagittarius 14 degrees and two minutes.

Are we talking about the Galactic Center?

My DSC is exactly conjunct the GC. Does this mean I attract polarizing people? Or am I myself polarizing?

I don't have any enemies (that I know of). I just know that people think I'm moody/b*tchy because of my default expression.

I think I don't really make an impact.

*shrug*

I have it exactly conjunct my anti-vertex, and conjunct my Sun by 2º. I'm not sure what I think about this. It's certainly a nice ego stroke, though.

Edit. amowls - no, the GA is something else at 14º Sag. I don't have anything conj the GC (which I believe is around 26º Sag?).

It's opposite my moon by 3 degrees. I don't usually make enemies, nor do I make friends with everyone I meet, although I try to be friendly.

I think the only part that resounds is that some of the things that have happened to me throughout my life (of a spiritual nature) have impacted people close to me.

8th

ETA: My progressed moon was conjuncting the GC and trans Pluto last year.

lol The Great Attractor sounds funny

It sounds like Big Foot or something. I wonder if there's an asteroid named Big Foot? Actually Big Foot should have more relevance than The Great Attractor!
for men anyways

Well, you sure attracted me to your thread.

Hmm, I've got my Uranus exactly conjuncting that point. No idea what that means... I'm guessing though maybe people get suddenly, out of the blue attracted to me. No seriously, it's trine my Sun and Mars which are, believe it or not, located in the 9th house...

OK, now I'm gonna go ponder about it's meaning and life generally.

This is an interesting "fixed star", that GREAT ATTRACTOR - thanks for calling my attention to it!

I looked it up in my own chart, and here are the links to other planets of mine (orbs 0-2):

Great Attractor in my 1st house
- cj. Circe
- cj. Actor
- cj. Lovers
- cj. Pluto/Node
- cj. Node/MC
- sextile Venus/ASC
- sextile Sun/Eros
- trine Amanda
- trine Minerva
- trine P.o. Husbandry
- trine P.o. Desire
- trine Sun/Venus
- trine Venus/Mars
- square Vesta
- square Pallas
- square Hera
- square P.o. Sexuality
- square Venus/Pluto
- opposite Bella

Well ... I cannot complain, haha ;-); Yes, I can find attention (from the opposite sex), if I want to.

I also looked at the Great Attractor in my ex-boyfriend's chart - to find out WHAT about his inner workings made me feel so awfully attracted... and so repelled and hurt after a while...

Great Attractor is in his 3rd house
- cj. P.o. Treachery (!)
- cj. Venus/Vertex
- sextile Cupido
- sextile Pallas
- sextile Damocles (!)
- sextile P.o. Unusual Events
- sextile his P.o. Addiction (!)
- sextile Venus/Mars
- trine his P.o. Identity (!)
- trine his P.o. Chaos (!)
- trine his Atropos
- trine his Saturn/Amor
- square his Saturn (!)
- square his Uranus (!)
- square his Puto (!)
- square his P.o. Fanatica (!)
- square his Moon/Juno
- opposite his Anteros
- opposite his Pan
- opposite his Saturn/Uranus

Hah - I put all these "!" in brackets ... because obviously ... his way of being the Great Attractor brings some very, very dark and aggressive and manipulative ... and ... ehm ... "not so nice ways". Actually, he is quite a negative and insecure person, as I found out very late. And he once told me: "Yes, I am a bit mean sometimes - so that I can FEEL you better." Hm - his Great Attractor-placement speaks abput that - doesn't it?

Hmm.

My Neptune is conjunct (3 degrees), in the 12th house.
Venus is opposite (0degrees)
Mars is square (3 degrees)
Mercury is trine (0 degrees)
My moon and Saturn make minor aspects within 1 or 2 degrees.
Jupiter is trine (5 degrees)
Pluto is sextile (8 degrees)

Those last ones especially are probably too great an orb, but overall I'm not really sure how to interpret these aspects. Given that the GA is in my 12th house, maybe it's something that nobody is aware of. I don't know, sometimes people tell me that I'm nice or have a good energy and other times people seem to hate me unprovoked - but I think this happens to us all really.

Mr Gemini's moon (2 degrees) and Chiron (1 degree) are trine the GA, and Venus is opposite (8 degrees).

His Mars (4 degrees) and NN (1 degree) are sextile the GA.

IMO he has a much more polarising effect on people than I do. People either think he's hilarious, fun and magically attractive, or they intensely dislike him.

Brigitte Bardot's ASC is conjunct the GA by 1 degree. In her prime, it's as though she personified the idea of the 'great attractor', becoming an iconic sex kitten of the 1960s - and in her later years she's attracted a great deal of wrath due to her her political opinions, while at the same time still having hard-out fans who support her animal rights campaigning. One example is the fact that she's been prosecuted for racial hatred while campaigning for Muslims in France to slaughter animals more humanely. She also has moon opposite the GA (2 degrees), and Mars trine the GA (4 degrees).

GemLover: Perhaps the GA is why a lot of Sagittarius ASCs are models? Makes sense.

I only have Mars conjunct it by 6 degrees. I think that's too wide of an orb. What's the orb for fixed stars?

Really? I didn't know that - do you have any examples of models whose ASC conjuncts the GA?

Aha! I had a hunch that Elvis Presley (like Bardot, a sex symbol for his generation) would have his ASC conjunct the GA, and he did! If the information that I found is correct, his ASC is at 12 degrees Sag (so, 2 degree orb). He also had Mars in Libra sextile his ASC and the GA.

Edit: There were also polarised opinions about him at the time. From the adoration of his female fans, to the conservative backlash/resistance against him because of his 'lewd' and 'disgusting' hip swivelling and overt sexuality. lolol

Also, Marc Bolan's Venus sextiled the GA (1 degree) and his Pluto trined it (0 degrees).

I can't really remember any from the top of my head but I remember reading about Sag ASCs and the description was like "The most attractive ascendant, next to Libras & Leos. A lot of models are Sag risings." so it could be a lot of BS.

Though, since my Mars is kind of close to the GA, it might explain why I'm attracted to male-model types (tall, thin, pretty).

It would be interesting to find out for sure. I think that Bardot and Elvis are good examples to start with but I'd like to see if there are any other 'sex symbols' whose ASC aspects the GA, to see whether there's any pattern.

Anyone?

LOL I think its his asc! Remember his chart ruler is aqu, aqu is pretty hard some people to take.

Good theory otherwise re stars and their ASC relationship to GA. I must look into it further. As for my neptune (and probably yours), I don't count it because it's a generational planet. Maybe for a person of our vintage with Pisces AC is might be a different situation.

Amowls - don't you have Sag DC? I think universally libra is seen as the most attractive with sag coming in second. I prefer Sag rising myself though.

Hmmm...that's interesting.

I have my Neptune conjunct to GA with a 2 degree orb, but I would imagine many of us would have that placement. Maybe for a slower moving planet like Neptune, house position would ultimately be just as important, if not more important. My Neptune is in the 7th house, and barring one 10 month period when I couldn't seem to have attracted a bear, had I stuck a honeypot on my head, I do tend to attract relationships to me with great ease. Usually ones which are later filed under labels such as "Rose-coloured lenses (1997-2000)", but still.

I have Juno squaring the GA almost exactly. And Moon quincunxing it, almost exactly as well. Hmrf.

I have an ex-bf whose Mars is at the 14 degree mark with Lust conjuncting Mars, no less, and both of these conjuncting his Ascendant. And I tell you, the boy was one hot tamale, and a Scorpio to boot. People exclaim all the time "Wow! He's the hottest boyfriend you ever had!" He was pretty.

The Great Attractor trining my Sun in Leo by 2 minutes and sextiling my Moon in Aqua by 1 degree.

However, i don't think that i have this effect on people. I don't think that people fall in love with me. Nor do i think that others intensely despise me.

Maybe i'm oblivious though...!

Amowls - exactly, Sag DC which means you like sag like qualities in your relationships.

Which reminds me, I remember you have an 8th house Aqu sun and some other planets too (maybe merc?) How does that play out in your life?

meta_4 - yeah I'm not sure if this GA plays out in my life either. Sure I polarise people but that's because I'm Aqu sun-Aries ASC.

I suspect a conj to the GA and oppostion might have a greater effect.

Yes, that would make sense. Do you think square would be powerful as well?

Do you think one personal planet brings more to it than another?

I think squares might be more powerful than the harmonious aspects but not as powerful as con/opp.

I think personal planets would definitely define the impact upon the person and therefore be stronger for the person. Sun, moon, asc etc are highly personal and not shared by all. A generational planet makes it a bit more vague and maybe its effects on a person will be greater if the person has the ASC that is ruled by the particular generational planet or the generational planet is the 1st house or other prominent locations in the chart. I have neptune on the GA and it links into my mystic rectangle and I can't say the effects have been great. Mind you, I hardly ever ask people what they think of me and what impact I have on others' lives.

23: Actually the house system I use (Placidus) my Sun & Mercury are in the 9th. They are in the 8th with the equal house system.

Basically I love College haha. I also find that since my Chart ruler is in the 9th, and my DSC is in Sag, I am attracted to guys who are like me. This becomes more apparent because my DSC ruler is in the 11th (Aqua house).

To be OT:

Brad Pitt's ascendant is conjunct the GA
same with Jude Law.

Good celeb examples. Although I've never been a fan of either of them myself, they're definitely considered sex symbols, especially Brad Pitt.
