I think we can't, based on karma, universal astrological timing, synastry aspects, etc.

What do you think?

Thanks, ~Nephthys

the heart doesn't answer to the mind, it answers to itself.

No.

That's why Shakespeare wrote about fairy dust and donkey's ears.

OK, so how would we go about explaining that to non-astrology people? You know how people love to give us lectures but they don't have any knowledge or understanding about karma, synastry, etc.?

Also wanted to add, the ties that bind, such as the darned Ascendant and Venus/Pluto, Saturn, etc.?

I think we have natural feelings--hunger, lust, romantic interest--but we CAN help our behavior.

Just the way we naturally have to pee/poop, but we wait to get to a bathroom to do it.

If you feel an intense romantic attraction to a friend's partner or someone else unavailable, I think it is ABSOLUTELY A CHOICE to set boundaries with yourself right away, being less open to that person.

We don't have a choice about initial feelings, but we absolutely have a choice about how and whether to deepen and explore them.

OHMYGOODNESS NO! It's not someone else's partner or someone unavailable, at all! It is my ex-BF!!! He is presently single as we recently split. The ties that bind are so difficult to let go!!!

By "you", I didn't mean YOU personally, Nephthys! I was commenting generally on the issue.

But I think that in the situation you describe, it's even more challenging to manage feelings. Once you HAVE lowered all those boundaries and gotten close to someone, it's soooo hard to raise them all up again. And just because you say, "We broke up" doesn't suddenly put feelings in a different category.

Exactly!!! Yes that is what I feel, that I can't just stop loving him, even if he treated me rotten, b/c of all the aspects, the ties that bind, it is hard to let go.

I seem to be in agreement with everyone else who posted. No you can't but it's how you deal with the attraction.

I have a pin somewhere that says, "People wouldn't fall in love if it were more clearly marked."

That said, um, no, no choice in the matter. Lightning strikes a bad target and yet I can't stop myself no matter what. Sigh.
