Share please!

What was your first deck?

Do you still use it?

Do you feel a special love for your first deck?

My first deck which I must have bought in 1995/96 was the Rider Waite. I really can't remember how I got into Tarot, although I can remember how and when I first came across astrology.

Still got the deck. The cardboard wrapper is a bit frayed but still holding all the cards together.

Did you start reading once you bought it?

Yeah me too, I don't really when I got into it.

Yes, I did, Jessica. Mostly using books and doing complex spreads.

But I think it's better to stick with a three or even one card spread now, so that's what I do.

I wouldn't really call myself a skilled tarot reader though. I think some have a natural gift for it.

I also did visit a tarot reader. It was a one-off visit, many many years ago.

I have to say I didn't like her. And haven't been to any others since. Just rely on myself, and my sub-standard skills!

How do you pull cards Luisbunuel?

Do you cross the cards after you shuffle?

I don't. I tried once, it doesn't work. It works best for me when I focus and shuffle and pull. Usually I pull a 4 cards spread otherwise 1 card spread when I ask a clarification question to the previous question asked.

I just shuffle them a few times and pull a random one out.

If one falls out while shuffling, I use that.

Do you think it's a good idea to be in a 'spaced-out' frame of mind while doing tarot?

Or is better to focus? Is there such a thing as too much concentration?!

'spaced out' frame of mind? Like you've gone off for a few secs? hmm it happens to me sometime when am shuffling, but when am focusing on the picture in my mind or the picture of the querent. I find it much more easier to connect with people I know, I guess it's the same thing for every tarot readers. I have an image of them in my mind and I focus. Yeah I do take the cards that fell out of my deck while shuffling but I would still pull my 4 cards out.

@Luisbunuel

have you ever ask your tarot deck if they like you?

I just did.

The Queen of Cups fell out.

Does that mean yes?

No, I've never craved affection from my deck!

I usually send out a request that they should ignore my feelings and be objective when answering my questions!

Well, the Queen of Cups is definitely a more positive reply than say, the X of swords!

My first deck was the Spanish Tarot (resembles marseille's deck)

No, I threw it away because I was scared one time . Hey I was young, don't judge me

Yes, I'm about to buy another copy

The reason why I got into it is because my aunt was always into "santeria". She would often go to Psychics and Tarot readers and she recommended this really good one. So, when I went to him I was around 17-18. He read the cards for me and made some predictions, gave me initials/names, and told me I would have a baby, etc. Well, what he said all happened a couple of months to a year later. During that time he told me I had a gift and that he would guide me (but I didn't believe him/pay attention to him and just bought the deck and never really went back after that) until last year. I'm going again this year soon =). I really want him to be my mentor this time around though because I'm that serious about it now =D.

The Oracle Tarot, but the Druidcraft was my first full deck (Oracle Tarot doesn't have Court cards). he Druidcraft grabbed me with its images, and was the deck that made me want to get involved.
