Hope you guys like these. They both have a powerful and beautiful message, each of their own type, to the background of " The Sound of Silence."

This first one gave me goosebumps. Beautiful and inspiring pictures.

Definitely on my favorite S&G songs.

What's your interpretation of the lyrics?

Is it about society, how we've become programmed, how we've become superficial, lacking in depth, not questioning our reality, not listening to eachother, not thinking?

Hi BR

Sorry that I am just getting back to reply.

I think that all the things you listed are what Sound of Silence is about. This song came out in 1995 ( the year I married ) and it was a commentary of the way things were then in society in the face of the injustices and wrongs in the world and it still applies today.

The Sounds of Silence to me means the apathy and complacency of people in not speaking out against the evils in the world, oppression, wars for corporate gain, hunger, genocide and all the injustices and inhumanities to fellow human beings. It means being self-centered on our own little selves in our own little worlds.

It also speaks of the way we close ourselves off and build walls around ourselves.

Another S&G song that is a segue of the Sound of Silence in that respect is " I Am A Rock." I like that song a lot too.

The second video that I posted with those pictures in the background of Sound of Silence made me cry. They do drive home in a profound way the meaning of those lyrics.

Sort of a segue to Sound of Silence I think. To me Paul Simon is speaking of those self-protective walls we build around ourselves in these lyrics.
