in the last year i've read the Da Vinci Code, seen the movie, and also read Angels and Demons. **if you're waiting to read/watch these, the following discussion may have some spoilers.these are such very interesting tales, leaving me with many questions and much to ponder. Dan Brown shows how these secret societies may not only manipulate our realities, but how others may manipulate our perceptions of these societies themselves. so who is the illuminati really? have our perceptions of them been so manipulated by conflicting interests, that their true essence is now even more obscure? in Angels and Demons, the radical priest who so manipulates world events i think Dan Brown is making out to be some kind of messiah figure, similar to Jesus Christ. it leads us, in a very subtle and circuitous way, to question the very truth of Christ i think. (the priest's conception is practically immaculate, between a nun and a priest, with no broken vows of chastity -- sound familiar?) well, a lot of these kinds of thoughts have occurred to me since being immersed in Dan Brown's universe. it's all thrilling to ponder....and i personally enjoy his approach...he's not all oooohhhh conspiracy doom and gloom. he presents lots of different facets and perspectives of the institutions and structures that comprise our society, from religious to scientific. interesting fodder for thought, i thought. quote: You might be also be interested -- There is a Time/Life special publication available right now that is suposed to be reporting the truth about several of these secret societies: Freemasons, Illuminati, Opus Dei, Skull and Bones Society and even Scientologists.
it would be interesting to compare Dan Brown's 'facts' about these societies with Time/Life's (a puported front for the cia). recall in the novels that often the truth, or the sometimes 'proof' about the fictionality of the groups is often deliberate, keeping their obsucrity and myth intact, in order to maintain high level secrecy. how can you really know what's real with them?? esp if they themselves, if at the upper echelon levels, are the ones promoting/fabricating/directing these very stories about themselves? the big issue in the da vinci code is that if the truth of the holy grail were to be proven to the world at large, then it would change everything everyone ever believed about christianity all around. however, i don't understand why this is necessarily so. i mean, why couldn't have Jesus been the same Christ we all know and love, died on the cross, resurrected, and then went off to europe to live out his life with Mary Magdalene and their kids? i suppose it might offend and irk some of those of a more patriarchal nature to know that she was a super-important disciple and his partner, but other than that, everything else about him could remain all the same. couldn't it? couldn't he be the same divine son of God that everyone praises and loves in the parables, and the same holy mysticism attributed to his death and resurrection...etc.....with a just a few corrections to the story? such as, he loved a woman and they had babies...what does that change about his divinity and all the great stuff he did for humankind? he was after all human as well wasn't he? i dunno, is that too simple, or too complex an added dimension to his story for people to accept? in the film Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) asks Sophie to consider whether exposing the 'truth' about Jesus is really necessary...seeming to imply that it would take away all the credibility JC has as a divine being. but it doesn't seem as though it would necessarily have to change his essential nature...to me anyway. perhaps i'm missing something. i do think that a lot of the content in these novels is related to what Linda Goodman had planned for 12th Night Secrets. Dan Brown also seems to believe that much of the content about these groups and the 'history behind the official history' is for real. that's rather intriguing, i think. IP: Logged |

What i got out of Davinci code was that women play an equal role in the world. What the catholic church teaches is that eve caused all the worlds problems. This is why it radically shakes up traditional religion. ( or does it really? Because i do beleive that women are coming into their own natural power, i found the timing of the book uncanny. Naiad, what you say rings true to me too...what big revelation is in there??? but that was why at the end they decided not to make a big deal about it and tell the world their findings. Some of that may have been for the sake of drama and making people want to read the book.Overall I really liked it because it was educational and it did make me question things. IP: Logged |

P.S. I have also read and I beleive that christ was not divine, he was an evolved human that had his twelfth strand DNA activated. This by the way is the direction that all human beings are moving into, or i should say will be able to tap into on sheer desire. This is part of the new energy available to us all by 2012. ( theories of course but i personally beleive them).IP: Logged | |
