Hi. Yes, I certainly believe such elementals exist. Do you know the story of Findhorn in Scotland? "Elementals," including fairies, play a big part in the story. I found fascinating the older book, The Magic of Findhorn, by Peter Hawken. It tells the story of the founding of the famous garden, back in the 1960’s. A man and his wife (Peter and Eileen Caddy), and family friend Dorothy MacLean, were forced by circumstances to find an inexpensive way to live. Eileen had for years been receiving inner “guidance” about steps to take in their lives, and now she was told that they should start a vegetable garden for themselves. The cold climate and sandy soil were very inhospitable to such a goal. Dorothy also came to be in telepathic communication--or “channeling” perhaps--with the “devas” of the natural world. They explained that they were in charge of--I guess sort of the oversouls of--the plant kingdom. Dorothy would pass on to Peter the guidance that the devas had shared with her, about how to best tend to the garden. The fairies who actually tend to plant life apparently expressed that they thought humans were quite a nuisance in that regard…that humans were ignorant when it came to acting in harmony with nature. Peter gradually started following the devas’ advice, adding certain things to the soil, tending it in certain ways…and over time the fairies realized this was a human who was actually doing things correctly, and they cooperated in turn. The Findhorn garden became famous for producing gigantic vegetables. It attracted much attention, and grew and evolved until today, when it is still an on-going “new age” learning center and long-time community for many...which is another story.
There was also another man involved, R. Ogilvie Crombie, who was apparently in tune with and able to see nature spirits. Here is a thoughtful, fascinating excerpt from The Kingdom Within, by Alex Walker, Findhorn Press, about Crombie’s encounter with a faun named Kurmos…and a later encounter with the god of nature, Pan himself. He also mentions seeing elves and gnomes.

The article gives great insight into how the elementals view humans…and how they view themselves. It suggests to me that just as we can learn from them, they can learn from us. …A theme seems to be that the elementals are surprised when some humans are able to see them. They have their own preconceived notions about us humans!
"Here was a step towards the reconciliation of Pan and the world of the nature spirits with man. Because I had been able to respond to him without fear, Pan could communicate with me and use me as a mediator between man and nature. This does not make me important in myself - I am simply a channel for his work.
"Vital to this reconciliation is the recognition of Pan's true nature. He is a great being, the god of the whole elemental kingdom as well as of the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms. People may feel uneasy in his presence because of the awe he inspires, but there ought to be no fear. All human beings are afraid of me, he had said at our first meeting, not as a threat but with sadness. Did the early Christian church not take me as a model for the devil? That is why Pan is feared -- because of the image projected on to him. This stigma must be lifted in order to re-establish the true link between man and nature."

I recently had an interesting "past life" regression, in which I seemed to be a gnome in a forest. I'll post about that here in a bit, when I get a chance.
