"Trees give pleasure to a pilgrim, shade to a deer, berries to a bird, beauty to the land and health to humans, branches for fire, leaves to the soil. My mother used to say: ‘The tree is the true teacher of humanity and the greatest teacher that we have – even greater than the Buddha.’ I would ask her: ‘What do you mean? There can be no greater teacher than the Buddha; the Buddha was the greatest teacher in India’. And my mother would say, ‘But even the Buddha got his enlightenment while sitting under a tree’. Nowadays people don’t get enlightenment, because they don’t sit under a tree. That was such a wonderful teaching and I now realize how right she was. Because when I come to the tree I feel a sense of calm, a sense of healing – it is the true sustaining force of the earth.”

Thanks
I absolutely love trees. I grew up on a tree lined street and have been surrounded by trees my entire life - especially maple. I was heart broken when developers tore down the forest I played in as a child. They named the street something like scenic ave; It was alot more scenic and full of wildlife before they came along.

I love fig trees and towering Sequoias of CA. I once walked in a birch forest in Maine it's quite a wonderful experience. The forest is bright because of the white bark!
The image of the buddah in the tree reminds me of my sister's inlaws home. They had a tree which wrapped around the metal hand rail and kept growing.

I think I chose that name because trees make me feel so calm and spiritually connected to the Earth.

And, as Satish Kumar said, "trees are poetry".

I think perhaps I ought to try sitting under a tree all the time!!!

The gypsy spirit in me doesn't like living indoors!!!
