One of my nephews is a Scorpio, born at 3:25 AM.

Let's just say he's very in touch with his shadow side.

Also, his dominant planet is Pluto.

The short and sweet of it is that the sacred times are "in between." For example, dusk and dawn (between day and night), and also midnight and noon (middle of night or day). This is also true of the solstices and equinoxes as they are also "in between." (The "in between" applies in other places, such as the classic crossroads, and also beaches, caves, mountains, and an occult explanation for why kids going through puberty tend to be the focus of supernatural experiences is that they're "in between" adulthood and childhood.)

I had heard of the Witching Hour as more or less midnight, but this gives an explanation of it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witching_hour

Though 3-4 AM does seem to be a very common time for the most terrifying nightmares, the kind that some believe are demonic (and regions with a reputation for being haunted tend to have the spookiest incidents at these times). Perhaps so many are asleep then that reality is more malleable by spiritual entities, and/or more people are just vulnerable at those times by virtue of being asleep. Maybe it's symbolic of its "darkest before dawn."

Everyone has a shadow side. Working with the shadow is not about giving yourself permission to do the forbidden, but about taking control of it. People who don't admit to it are more controlled by it than those who don't. People who pretend that's not in them are subconsciously controlled by it and/or project it onto others. Being attuned to one's shadow side and being something of a psychopath are two completely different things (especially as a shadow side is created by those parts we repress about ourselves--which could be kindness as well as cruelty in some cases--and a true psychopath wouldn't bother).

Though I liked this one brand of urban fantasy which featured the astral plane in it. Sometimes people had to go to the "metaplanes" on astral quests, but before they did they always had to get past a Guardian of sorts (though very mysterious, it's noted that those who can't get past probably wouldn't have survived the trip anyway, so it may be doing people a favor no matter how many love to hate it). This Guardian knows all your dark secrets and will bring them up, which is why most prefer to face it alone as it will do so in front of others as well (but everyone who shows up will have their dirty laundry exposed). This is usually stuff involved in harming other people, but the interesting part to me is that if a psychopath who doesn't care, and may even enjoy, harming people goes before the Guardian then it will instead reveal the "dirty laundry" of when the said person was kind, weak, or even too cowardly to act on such evil impulses (and it has the very same effect on those it taunts for having harmed others).

Unfortunately, he's a bit too in touch with his shadow side. He gets along well, mostly, with those he feels that agree with his shadowy philosophy.

Thank God I'm not close to him. And thank God he's someone else's responsibility!

Generally speaking, the world has never been a better place to be alive than (more or less) today. That's not to say it's utopian by any means, but generally speaking it's not as bad as it has been. More here:

Negativity sells so that's why the news teams focus on it while that which is good is easily overlooked. ('Course shows about hauntings and such are also much more easier to come by now than ever, but I still have books that show how common such paranormal events were in decades past. Strangely, it seems the 1950s had a lull in that such things became a lot less common, or at least less commonly reported, but it picked back up again by the early 60s.)

Most of my OBEs have occured right around midnight. At first, it was scary, but these days I enjoy it. I do stare at the mirror around midnight just because I read somewhere that if you look at the mirror around midnight, it reflects what your face looks like after death. The first time I tried it, I kept on staring at the mirror without blinking, and after sometime, my face appeared disfigured. These days, it just reflects my normal face, but then again, I have not put much effort into it.

About 3 a.m. I do not know, I sleep like a log around that time. If something disturbs my sleep around that time, I feel less energetic during that day.

However I've read somewhere that a person born in the morning usually is born with high amount of awareness. So, maybe it's the darkest right before the dawn, but it's just a guess of mine.
