Do you have any irrational fears that you can't figure out the source of? I was watching some show where this woman was terrified of cats and didn't know why or how this irrational fear came about since she'd never been clawed or bitten by one in her entire life. It reminded me of my own irrational fear of insects (I guess it's not super irrational, but still).I've been terrified of butterflies (don't laugh!) since I was a small child and can't for the life of me figure out why. I've never had a traumatic experience with one, yet whenever I'm hiking and see a butterfly I have to wait until it flies away before I can hike on. Could a butterfly somehow have negatively affected me in a previous life? IP: Logged |

It's difficult to know, though the Symbology of the Butterfly often has to do with ideas of Transformation, and this below excerpt from a site I was reading has some interesting... maybe even relevant information as to your strange aversion towards the Creature (that is ofc, assuming we are taking the ideas of Past Lives into account and them influencing you currently)?-=-=- http://www.pure-spirit.com/more-animal-symbolism/611-butterfly-symbolism quote: In early Christianity, the butterfly was a symbol of the soul. In China, it was used as a symbol of conjugal bliss and joy. The butterfly was particularly revered by the tribes of the American southwest. Its dance is performed by both Navajo and Hopis. In the Hopi tradition, unmarried girls of the butterfly clan wore their hair in the shape of butterfly wings to advertise their availability. To Native Americans, the butterfly is a symbol of change, joy and color. The exquisite butterfly was considered a miracle of transformation and resurrection.Yellow ButterflyIn the Old World, the connotation was negative; the butterfly was thought to be the spirit of the dead. In Gnostic art, the angel of death is depicted crushing a butterfly underfoot. Its attraction to flame and light symbolize purification by fire. Sailors who saw a butterfly prior to embarkation believed that they would die at sea. In some areas of England, it is thought that butterflies contain the souls of children who have come back to life. Elsewhere in England, a person is supposed to kill the first butterfly they see or face a year of bad luck; if that first butterfly in spring is yellow, sickness is in store for the entire family. Only in Scotland and Ireland does the appearance of a golden butterfly signify something good – it is believed that a golden butterfly near the dead ensures the soul’s place in heaven.
-=-=-=- The Butterfly Symbolism is a really mixed bag, from Bad to Good... and it's possible (that in other lives) you were more inclined to see it as something bad..? And so perhaps built up a general dislike of the Symbol itself that you have simply carried with you into your current incarnation? Hope that's helpful ------------------ You can't handle my level of Tinfoil! ~ {;,;}

Interesting about butterflies being related to death and bad luck. Last year on January 1st, 2016 I went on a hike and distinctly remember seeing a white butterfly, my first butterfly on the new year. 2015 had been a difficult year for me and oddly enough 2016 turned out to be much better. Maybe the butterfly is actually a sign of good luck? 2017 hasn't been the best either, maybe because I didn't go hiking on January 1st lol OR maybe because when I went hiking the first animal I saw was a big snake.

Perhaps something terrible happened in a past life and as you lay dying there were butterflies hovering about. Or did anything every happen to you as a child; like you were looking at a butterfly and a bee stung you and your mind being so young thought the butterfly did it?

There were everal species of butterflies out today! Some were as you said: playfully chasing each other! A pair of yellow ones; a pair of white ones; some Monarchs; And just fluttering about here and there. And alll Summer seen pretty much all of these kinds! I lie in my bed with a pair of binoculrs when I cannot walk or walk well; and watch the butterflies and other wildlife just outside my window. These are just the butterflies! Maybe in a past life, a person that you loved that died loved butterflies. So butterflies represent loss and/or death to you. It's probably a past life fear, or connection, to you. IP: Logged |
