PS.
I experience often overwhelming; but always never ending pain; and even screaming agony at times due to the dozens of chronic/disabling/progressively degenerating; diseases/syndromes and conditions.
I don't know what kinds of terrors he encounter in his dreams/sleep; but I know that severe pain; alone or with medications; can and do cause terror dreams.
I am rarely free from the dream terrors.
I even die over and over in them
I might be able to advise better if I knew what his dream terrors are about and definitely what medications he is on.

Also; a persons pain can give energy to a resonance//recording; like turning on a video or playing a movie on a tape or disc; or even online.
Pain and or fear can literally amplify and cause the resonance/recording to play; just like a movie does; except the one in pain or fearful is the power source; the video player so to speak.
If the apparitions do not speak or respond to him or get noticed by you; then again; I'd say it is not actual ghosts.
But even those cannot actually hurt him.
Is he afraid of them? These apparitions?
Fear can stress a person out.

It used to scare me...a lot. At one of the facilities I worked at, I wouldn't walk down one of the hallways by myself. Now I've come to accept that some people do not move on easily, and I've also gotten used to seeing and feeling things that aren't supposed to be there.
