Separate topics at the moment, but I've been reading this: http://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/whats-your-best-108202-page57.html thread and something reminded me of an "encounter" we had when I was a kid.

We would spend some weekends at my Uncle's cottage close to the coast, in England. He was divorced, and lived alone, before moving in with an aunt at some point, and then us.

Anyway: one weekend, we were there; me, mum, and my sister, sharing his large bed, whilst he slept in the spare room. I hated all of the lights being out, and can't recall why they were at that time, unless it's because my Uncle didn't want a light left on. I was feeling uncomfortable - I had the strong sense that something was there/something was wrong, but I couldn't see anything. I asked Mum if I could move to sleep between her and my sister (I usually didn't like being stuck in the middle).

The next morning, my sister told mum that a woman had been standing next to the bed, looking at her. *shiver* The woman she described was my Uncle's ex, a woman we didn't know that well. It turned out that she'd died of cancer.

I saw something when I was small, but this is usually the way things happened with us: I would feel something, and my sister would see it, or dream about it.

I've been looking for signs from my mother. Once, when I was really upset, not long after we lost her, I typed "Where are you, mum?" into google, and found a post from a woman who'd lost her mother unexpectedly. Then an alarm went off on my phone - only I hadn't set it for 4:36am. I'd set it for 5pm the previous day, and I'd turned it off. I turned it off again, and a while later, it went off again, only didn't show as an alarm - it made a sound (no notifications showed). Another time, I was upset, ranting, by myself here before the sun came up. I turned the landing light on as I came back downstairs from the bathroom, crying, and the light really dimmed, several times. It stopped, went back to normal, and as I started to cry again a while later, it did the same thing. It hasn't done it since. I also heard her say my name, a few days after we lost her. Very clear, from the hallway at the bottom of the stairs.

My Great Uncle also had a near-death experience. It completely changed his outlook on things.

teasel, that kind of thing happened to me with my mother as well. Also my father.

I take it as real and derive comfort from it.

Looks like I missed Faith's stories.. :S

But I concur, teasel - those are eerily real experiences. For some reason, just reading that made me shiver.

Bumping, because this has been on my mind.

There are supposedly true stories here, too: http://jezebel.com/the-wind-moans-a-door-creaks-its-time-for-jezebels-an-1845229761
