I used to have a gift shop attached to an art gallery and a sales rep brought around some realistic looking cats (if I say toys you may think I mean toys that cats play with or see nice plush cat animals). These were made in the "orient" and out of real fur... and made to look like real cats curled up asleep... charming until you realize they are made of real animal fur... and yes in some cases cat fur! yikes! I was truly upset. Made me ill and furious and well, I have to say something about it.I did some checking and a lot of these abominations are truly made of cat fur and unspeakable cruelty is involved in their manufacture.
so, please dont let some clerk oblivious to reality... and keen on a sale... tell you that it is rabbit fur... and.. if it is (as it is in some cases) SO WHAT!.. it is still wrong wrong wrong to hurt animals in the name of making a product and bunnies have as much right to a natural life as the rest of us.
anyway... to cat lovers it is indeed apalling and I let other store owners know what they are offering when I see similar "toys" and "ornaments" displayed.
In your travels, you may see such merchandise and it is up to all of us to let others know the score. Ultimately they will or wont take it off their shelves.
and it likely wont impact on animal lives for a while, people are just too insensitive...but awareness has to start somewhere and inhumane actions have to end... sooner rather than later.
ok
this and my previous "heads up" posting about toxins are a silent crusade to reduce the suffering of lovely animals. I thankfully come down from my soapbox, my it is windy up here!
I thank Linda for inspiring a site and books which are a haven for loving people who have the energy and committment to reducing suffering. Love to all
