It is incredible how we are continually discovering new species... and to think that we are connected to all life on earth, even life yet undiscovered. This was from last year - September - so I don't know if it was posted here in the past:"Typical cave-dwelling organisms, unpigmented and eyeless, were discovered in a karst area located in northeastern Brazil. The organisms were assigned to a new genus and species of freshwater flatworm and may constitute an oceanic relict. Here are nine other species recently discovered. 1- Caqueta monkey (rare to discover a new mammel, purrs like a cat) 2- Gorgon head starfish 3- Attenborough's pitcher plant 4- Phobaeticus chani (longest insect, stickbug) 5- Blossom bat (hummingbird bat of the world) 6- Psychedelic frogfish (unique patterns as fingerprints are unique to each of us) 7- Scaly-eyed gecko (small enough to sit on top of a pencil eraser) 8- Pearl River map turtle 9- Sneezing monkey of Burma (only 300 known to exist)read about them on Mother Nature Network: http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/photos/9-newly-discovered-species/caqueta-monkey IP: Logged |
