I've been interested in astrology for years and I understand houses and planets but I dont understand squares and transits especially how they affect us in the present!

Hey there, welcome

You've got an interesting chart.

Squares - when two planets are 90 degrees apart. They cause a lot of tension to the person and the person resolves the tension by doing something. It is a very action orientated aspect that gives people a lot of energy.

Transits - a chart can be drawn up for any time. The planets for that point of time can be compared back to the natal chart and aspects and house position of the transiting planets (planets for a point in time) in the natal chart can be seen. These all have different impacts depending on the houses that these transiting planets fall in and the aspects they form (ie planetary pairs).

Transits are used for predicting what will most likely happen in a person’s life by evaluating the way the planets were aligned in the sky the day the native was born. The aspects (square, opposition, etc.) tell which way this energy will be felt by the native. Happier times usually coincide with trines and sextiles while squares and oppositions are more tense and harder to deal with. The conjunction just fuses two energies together that can be good or bad depending on the rest of the chart.

Well the 8th house emphasis means that maybe life so far has had an emphasis on eighth house issues, ie death, taxes, inheritance, other people's money, the occult etc. The house tells you where you express your energies, and a particular type of energy is your planets.

So you have Merc, Mars, Moon and Sun all in the 8th. You express your mental (Merc) abilities, executive (Mars) abilities, your emotions/soul (Moon) and Ego (Sun) through 8th house issues. Basically you have a Scorpionic flavour to these planets because Sco is naturally associated with the 8th.

The planet describes what energy it is, the sign that the planet falls in describes the flavour, the house of the planet shows where that energy is directed.
