anybody have any? I first got to reading charts in a very fixed way til i discovered things like depositors, rulerships, decans etc.. anybody use tricks that they've found along the way that help them? for example: i've read that the part of fortune can be used as an alternative ascendant to read the chart.. once i discovered that, i started turning my chart around and would use the mc or ic or even descendant as an ascendant when i wanted to see things from a career, home or relationship point of view.. it was interesting.. yet tricky..

Can you explain this method about the Part of Fortune as a ASC. alternitive a little more? And how do you interpret the Vertex?

My new trick, is interpreting Lunar Returns charts. It really shows the emotional nature for the entire month and I was looking at my new lunar return which happened a little before the new moon (so two days ago). And it looked very ominious, which makes sense because a romantic relationship I had started with a friend for the past two weeks abruptly ended today. Ce la vie!

well, you take your part of fortune and rotate the chart so that the part of fortune is where the ascendant would normally be and read the chart as so.. apparently, it was done by the veteran astrologers quite some time ago and i didnt read into it any further but the chart turning thing sure does bring things into prospective.. your chart appears different every single way you put it and believe it or not, some things become much clearer then than if you were to look at it as you always do.

Duke, that sounds interesting! But I don't get the Part of Fortune thing where the asc is. Do u mean put the POF on the asc? I'm confused!

no, you just literally keep your chart as is, and instead of using your ascendant as your ascendant, you'd turn your chart clockwise and put the POF where the ascendant would be.. in other words, where the 9 o'clock dial would be on a clock.. you'd then have a complete different looking chart and the part of fortune would be the new supposed ascendant.. it helps if you can download your chart to a phone or something where you may view it in your hand and just turn your device to better look at it..

and vertiver, sorry i missed your vertex comment the first time around.. i actually haven't delved much into the vertex actually.. i know very little about it

Hello The Duke,

I've heard of this kind of thing using all of the Arabic Parts, the Part of Fortune being one of them. People also use many different rulership routes for each planet to do the same thing with charts. It's all very interesting. I'm wondering if you can use your chart or the chart of someone very well known to demonstrate how the very BIG BELLS in a chart can be rung, giving strong "AHA!" moments using this method. Have you had success any iron clad success with this method?

When all else fails with a client, in trying to find their ASC, I will use the Sun's degree to set the ASC and it seems to work strongly for some odd reason. But I thought this was common knowledge, I wouldn't define it as a trick, but I suppose that definition makes it more fun.

hmm... im not sure what you mean about the 'aha!' moments.. and as far as trying to figure out ascendant, i'd just put their sun in the fifth house cusp and go with it.

I mean, when you test the Part of Fortune (as a make-shift Ascendant), what results have you had?

For example, when was the last time that an outer planet (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) aspected your Part of Fortune by transit, progression, Solar Arc, parallel or contraparallel and you had a major result like: geographic relocation, a health issue, a strong transformation, a relationship event, career event, birth, marriage, divorce, etc.

I guess I'm trying to say, what is your experience of seeing the Part of Fortune reacting with the same sensitivity as the ASC-DESC Axis?

hard to say actually because my part of fortune is opposed by saturn and uranus that are in conjunction in late sagittarius.. during the pluto transit while it left sagittarius, i had quite the life experience but at the same time, i was having saturn moving over my sun and south node in virgo so im not sure how i'd be able to clearly credit those experiences... all in all, my chart is actually pretty spread out.. i have something in every single house and a cardinal cross to go along with it so im always experiencing something.. think you'd be best off finding a different experiment subject to figure this out lol..

I think your a Leo and if your Saturn and Uranus are in late Sag. than you were born around the same time as me. I'm a Leo Sun myself and I have a splay chart as well, there is a bit of everything in the chart. The late Sag. Saturn/ Uranus are located in my first house, its no wonder I don't seem like a Leo Sun...

Hmmm....Well, my PoF is in Libra in the 6th and doesn't make any major aspects at all. That would put Uranus in my 12th, widely in a conjunction with my new asc.
Would the houses then flip to put whatever house the PoF is in to the 1st house??? That would put my Libra stellium there lol... my Pluto/Mercury conjunction would be in the first house. Hmmm.

Instead of making the POF an Ascendant, shift the Ascendant in the clockwise direction by the same value as the clockwise difference between POF and Natal Moon. This is the Secondary Ascendant. Then shift all other planets accordingly to re-create your chart with the same aspects. You will then get "Aha" moments about hidden aspects about your Self.

This Secondary Chart's Saturn and Nodes will throw insights into Karmic Connections too.

My wife's Secondary Saturn exactly conjuncts our first born Son's Moon. Isnt the Moon representative of Mother and Saturn for Fate/Karma?

My wife's Secondary Ascendant is Pisces and explains her inner Piscean Traits.

Once you make the Draconic Chart as well, and consider that as a cumulative Soul Chart, you will know mind boggling insights about your Self and core relationships by seeing Tropical, Draconic and Secondary Charts together.

shrugs

in the old days, The Part of Fortune was used to check houses from

Lot Houses

whole signs were used

Robert Hand wrote about that

Vedic Astrologers do it with the Moon and even the Sun as well as other points referred as lagnas of a certain kind.

They mainly look at transits in the houses from the placement of the Moon.

I believe the newspaper horoscope writers use Solar charts........using Sun as the Ascendant, and looking at houses from it.

Duke,

How do you mean shift the sun to 5th house cusp and go from there? Do you mean that if my 5th cusp is sagittarius then i should just hang around sag/scorp/capricorn to find my asc?

If i put my PofF on my ASC my chart works much better lol

The only "trick" I know is to stop looking at the chart for a few weeks and then come back and look at it. I always notice something new this way. I've thought I looked at specific charts thoroughly only to come back months later and see all types of aspects and themes I never noticed before.

Don't know if this actually qualifies as a trick but hey, hope it helps someone!

------------------
Virgo Asc 6˚& Mars 0˚
Gemini Sun 24˚
Libra Moon 14˚(conjunct Pluto 0˚ in 2nd house)
Gemini Mercury 25˚
Cancer Venus 29˚ (Mutual reception with Moon)
And yes, i'm a guy!

hey lara, hmm.. for the 5th house thing i was commenting on the ascendant question valentine brought up.. i meant that as a whole seperate comment to the thread where if yoiu're charting someone and don't know they're ascendant, it'd be a safe bet (imo) to just move the cusp their sun is in to where the 5th house would be.. saves a lot of trouble and looking at a weird chart trying to make heads or tails out of everything without having any ascendant sign..

stick with the part of fortune on ur ascendant to check out the alt reading.
