I'm reading up on classical astrology for fun- but I can't figure out what it means when they say a planet is dignified by face?

They also use the terms "dignifed by sign" which I'm assuming just means that the planet is in it's own sign. Have no idea what face means though.

Usually when you are talking about a planet being on your "face" it is conjunct the Ascendant in the 1st house.

Mars and the Sun would be dignified in the first or a double dignity would be Mars in Capricorn (or Aries) in the first or the Sun in Aries (or Leo) in the first house.

It’s a way of classifying a planet by way of dignity.
Face is the ‘lowest rung on the dignity ladder’.
