My friend's exact birth time isn't known, and she either has Mars in Sag in the 1st or the 12th house going by her mother's best estimate.

Her Mars personality is that she tends to get defensive easily, has temper fits when upset, and can resort to yelling. When she is upset, its like a firework display in that the the emotion is very obvious but short lived. She calms down after the upset runs its course, and moves on easily.

Despite being easily provoked, she does not enjoy arguments or look for confrontation. She does have a big ego, and wounding her pride is a big no no.

Does this sound more like a Mars in the 1st or a Mars in the 12th?

Thanks

What's her voice like? Would Mars be near Asc?

in all honesty, you can't tell.

a fire mars regardless of house, has a natural ease in expressing the emotion of anger assertively as you describe.

the house does not influence how a mars will deal with the emotion of anger.

you need to look at the MOON and its aspects for emotion. and the mars sign and its aspects for how it expresses it. Everybody goes through the emotion of anger.

if you wnat to figure out the house of a planet, you have to look at where that planet is expressing its self, or taking place in which area of life.

with mars it should be easy, since it will "DO" in the area of life of the house its in.

with mars in sag in the 12th, person could be very passionate, and a bit of a preacher in some kind of faith, perhaps religion. maybe medicine, or some kind of service. something 12th house themed.

if its 1st house, im not sure, im not good at explaining by heart how the 1st house influences a planet. the ego may be very important to this person based on what you are saying, so 1st house has some evidence based on what you've wrote so far.

What aspects does that mars make?
and what are your choices of Asc signs?

There are some great replies here.

I can only offer you this, I have mars in Aries which is meant to be pretty upfront and confrontational with their anger expression, right?

Well, its safely buried in my 4th house.
People are always surprised how I don't react, even in situations where reaction is justified and even expected. I never show anger outwardly, because I bury it so deep and implode internally.

Even with a fire mars, the water house placement submerges it almost completely.

So, I would assert that your friends perhaps has a 1st house mars (is she speedy? does she have a short attention span? does she instigate action within your social group? is she a do-er? does she hate sitting around and waiting for things to happen to her, but rather prefers herself to happen to other things?) or a Mars-Asc conjunction (from the 12th).

I think a purely 12th house mars would act somewhat similar to my mars and be much less evident in it's expression.

This is a gut feeling.I think she has a 12th house Mars.
If anger is hard for her ,that would point to the 12th house.
The first house could express these more directly,I would think.
To me,the hallmark of planets in the 12th house is how HARD it is to express them properly i.e. directly.

Defensiveness is directly related to ego, and the ego/self being 'wounded'.

Self is the 1st.
One does not have to be the aggressor in order to channel a 1st house Mars.

If this native has water or earth placements modulating that fiery mars, then the action of this mars may indeed be turned to a defensive rather than offensive stance.

A 12th house mars wouldn't have the self-confidence or energy to act defensive to begin with.

You got a point about the 12th house Mars being too shut down to show direct anger lol

Yes,aggression isn't confidence;but defensiveness is even lower than aggression. This is weak Mars,it's in H12.

Thank you for the replies =) Regarding emotions, she has the Moon in Pisces in the 3rd squaring Neptune/Sun in Sag (12th house). Venus is in Scorpio the 11th house. The birth time being 8:00 a.m. would give her Sag rising 29* with Mars in the 12th house. Given the birth time of 8:10 a.m., the Asc would be Capricorn and Mars would fall into the 1st house.

Her voice is distinctive, clear with good speech. Her speech does turn to colorful words when upset =). She does get very annoyed with traffic, and gets mild road rage. Otherwise, she does not like to come across as unintelligent and is careful when communicating her thoughts.

She is a go getter, makes things happen, and tells it as she sees it. She gets impatient and bored easily, and has a tendency to take tasks onto herself to see them through. In a team setting, she gets frustrated with slackers and prefers to do things her own way.

I'm really not sure if the defensive attribute is coming from a Mars in the 12th, or the harsh squares and oppositions to the Moon. After reacting too strongly to slights and offensives, she does get over things quickly.

Hello PhoenixFire! Welcome to LL

If she has a Capricorn Ascendant her Mars/Sag would fall into the 12th house
