Hard Mercury to Saturn aspects. Like a Saturn square Mars transit. A tough Saturn transit to the ruler of the 3rd or 9th, which both deal with lower/higher thinking. Another possibility: Saturn progressing through the 9th and the 3rd. 9th it would probably be worse since this house deals with faith and a higher, celestial thinking. 3rd could make one have some rigidity too though. A 6th house Mercury might cause one to be a bit more inclined to Virgoan thinking which can be rigid, neurotic and perfectionism oriented at its worst. IP: Logged |

Not necessarily. Saturn in the 9th could indicate something like a person who was unsure of where they stood philosophy or religiously, coming to a decision about those issues and deciding what it is they believe in. It doesn't have to necessarily play out as rigidity or limiting. Right now I'm at the beginning of a 9th house Saturn transit and that's how it's played out for me - I've finally drawn my line in the sand and decided, "Okay, this is what I believe in, and this is what I don't." Weird thing is I don't see myself doing this but a couple of people have said exactly the same thing for me not to notice. 1 was a tarot reader. The other my superior.IP: Logged |

Over thinking?Jupiter in the 3rd ~ havinh lots of thoughts Aspects from Mercury to Pluto ~ obsessive with thoughts Virgo ~ sign of analysis But stiffness? Can be fixed signs, Saturn, but I've seen rigidity of thinking across all signs and aspects.

Stiffness could be related to stuborness...And I've found Taurus qualities to be stubborn. So maybe some aspects related to that...IP: Logged |

In my opinion humans as a species over-think. It is the secret to unhappiness ;-)Peregrine this sounds like a verbatim description of you from people who barely know you. Perchance the issue is more that you take too seriously what you are told? For this I give you Mercury contact to Neptune, Neptune contact to the Ascendant. Have to agree with the other responses ~worry usually correlates to Virgo (Chiron) and Saturn (Capricorn) affecting Mercury and or 3rd House contacts. We all DO worry but these are the 'thinking worrier' types ;-) IP: Logged |

I see those things in my own personality... let me see if I can spot them in my chart.Mercury conjunct Saturn = self-censorship? This kind of meshes with the "stiffness" that the OP referred to. Mercury conjunct Pluto = skepticism, obsession; this could mesh with over-thinking.

For rigid-thinking? Mercury-Saturn aspects. The harsh ones. For overthinking? Depends on what you mean by that exactly - I'm thinking Virgo Mercury placements, for dissecting and picking things apart excessively. Mercury-Pluto would make a person obsess in a more general sense, just constant thought on the same thing over and over or all the time. IP: Logged |
