The Aries Sign fascinates me. Without doubt Aries is the MOST IMPULSIVE Sign in the whole Zodiac. No other Sign is as brash and wreckless as the Aries. I have a Mercury in Aries and if you knew me IRL you would see me as very Aries in heated debates and arguments esp. on topics I LOVE so much .

However Aries is also known as the Sign of War along with Scorpio and in a rather fascinating irony, when it comes to fighting Wars Aries is known to be self-controlled and stoic. Alexander the Great was stated to possibly having an Aries Rising based on Recitification and I suspect thats not too far-he was know to be wreckless, celebrating parties and losing his temper esp. when he was drunk.

However on the battlefield, he portrayed such a high level of Discipline and soticness you'd never think he was an Aries. He could control his hot temper and brash impulsive nature when timing a planned attack. He was able to bear through pain and tiring conditions that would break many men not conditioned for Military with such calm stoicness.

I noticed so many Aries or Aries Risers make up much of the list of many outstanding soldiers.

I have an Aries friend who was a Paratrooper in Vietnam. He WAS a VIOLENT VIOLENT full of anger when he came back home.

However even after coming back home when he was involved ina military exercise like staying in the barracks or marching, he protrayed such professionalism as a soldier you would never know of his hot temper outside the military.

I already stated he was a hot tempered person when he came home. Well he had that Aries trait of picking fights everywhere he went.

However when he got into street fights while he portrayed the legendary aggression Aries is infamous for, he also portrayed a calm cool mind in fights-he would keep his mind intact for oppurtunities. Thats all I'll leave, I won't got into details. But he portrayed that Aries trait of calmness in battle in Street Fights and Fighting Sports.

I knew an Athlete from High School who's an Aries. Outside of sports you'd think he was the most immature goofball you've ever met.

But when it came to Track and Field and Cross Country he trained with such seriousness he portrayed such sportsmanship in training and in competition.

I notice thats a trait in Aries. They're such brash and hot tempered people but when it comes to aggressive avenues like sports and fighting and (especially) Warfare and Militarism, they portray such a calm stoic image that you'd think Aries is among the most Disciplined Signs in the Zodiac (or at least the most Disciplined Fire Sign).

But once outside of sports, fighting, and military, they're some of the most rash,impulsive people you ever met.

What explains this fascinating traits in the Aries?

Cool observations!

I think it's because they're competitive people. Anything involving competition is taken seriously. They love to "win." Aries also go 'head-on' into their activities; they put 100% into everything they do.

I have an Aries Sun, but also several planets in Capricorn. I never feel as completely calm... as I do when I feel directly threatened or attacked.
I feel like I see a picture in my mind - something like a spreadsheet of past-present-future.. and the possible actions I can take + the possible outcomes my actions can have.

:edit: Although.. if you indirectly attack an Aries - you will cause them much more grief.
Aries are very well equipped at dealing with straight forward attacks.. Passive-aggressive attacks - not so much.

I think that's part of it.
The Aries person you know when they are not taking something seriously - and the Aries person you'll come to know when they are taking something seriously - can be such different people, you might think he/she has a split-personality.

I like this article about the elements: http://www.cosmic-imperative.com/elements.htm

Here is the part about fire signs:

quote:
FIRE: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Rub a match lightly a few times on the ignition strip of a matchbook -- no ignition. Next, apply more pressure until the match ignites and suddenly burns brightly. Hold the burning match for a few seconds, then light a piece of paper with the burning match. Let the match go out after it is placed on a fire resistant surface (plate, ashtray, etc.). Light other matches and extinguish them by putting in water, blowing on, and smothering.

At first, the match does not ignite when lightly struck, but with harder rubbing (more friction, thus higher ignition temperature) does start burning. Fire people need the proper amount of stimulation before they will show any interest in a situation, but once "ignited", fire people get intensely involved. Before ignition, fire seems completely disinterested. The only speeds on the fire gearshift are stop and ahead fast; the gear shift is made suddenly.

Once the fire has started to burn, the flame only burns along the match (fuel), not out into the air or along the plate when the match is placed on the plate. Fire only moves toward what interests it personally (fuel) and ignores the rest (non-fuel: air, plate) as if it didn't exist.

The lit match gives off heat and light. Fire can warm and inspire those nearby. Unfortunately too much heat burns up others -- all that is left is ashes. Fire is best as a stimulator when it enthuses people, rather than burning them up. If too enthusiastic and left to burn unchecked, fire can completely consume and destroy all the human and material resources.

A fire can't control its own burning. Fire people are often very generous with their time, energy, and money -- provided the activity interests them (fuel)

Fire people are here to learn the lesson of love and wisdom. Love can cleanse, purify, heal, and inspire, but love without wisdom can destroy. Encourage fire's creativity, passion, and enthusiasm, but also help fire see the results of their "burning", so that fire can learn wisdom. Fire people on the path of love and wisdom are

· Vital and spontaneous -- envied and sometimes resented by more peaceable types;

· Children at heart;

· Burns, often very quickly, and then is gone;

· Confident, generous, outgoing, active (physically and emotionally); -Impulsive and gets bored quickly;

· Loves starting projects and relationships, but may grow tired and leave rather then finish;

· Can lack self-control and sensitivity to others;

· Dramatic, intense, likes change;

· Brings up new possibilities;

· Sees how to prepare for future.

The natural world has many lessons about the elements of astrology. Next time you're barbecuing think about fire sign people. What does champagne have to do with water people? To learn more about earth people, take a close look at the park next time you take a walk there. Contemplate what air has to offer the next time a breeze cools you off on a hot day.

I also wonder about setting. Of course Aries is going to seem brash and impulsive in a library, but if you put him in a soccer game with the same attitude it probably works.

As an Aries Sun and Aries Mars, I'd say it comes down to focus.

Kind of like with some people with ADD. They're all over the map, until they hit on something that totally engrosses them. Then they have this laser-like focus for what it is they're doing. I have a Libra friend like that. Totally ADD. However, once he found something that really held his attention, then he could sit still for hours on that one thing. (Aries and Libra, polar opposites, but every opposite also holds elements of the other that they oppose).

Makes sense that an Aries would be focused on something like Sports and War. Things that Aries traditionally rules. It can hold their attention in such a way that other things just can't.

Anyway, that's my best guess.

Aries Asc, and for me, it is more about what matters, and what does not matter.

When it does not matter, then let the goofball stuff commence..when it matters then there is no room for mucking about.

I suspect if one wishes to see an Aries really get steamed, put them in a professional setting and have a co worker screw around on something important.

Much of Aries's drive to compete and to win comes from its Cardinal Quality + It's ruled by Mars.
