Does where Saturn lie indicate a huge obstacle in the area? Like a Saturn in the 10th will experience little or no success until maybe after Saturn's return?

Does anyone have Saturn in the 10th experience?

Similarly, a Saturn in the 8th house has a deep fear of intimacy? I noticed that in a friend.

Does that mean, where Saturn is in the chart is our area of largest obstacle, as well as lifetime growth or purpose?

fleur, to me saturn is what you feel compelled to master in life. very often the road IS fraught with obstacles and fears but in the end you will deal with it and many will master it.

for example two twins i know, who were both practicing musicians when i met them at a young adult age...#1 has saturn in 2nd. he ended up quitting music because he was "fed up with poverty" and became a business owner. after succeeding and then crashing and burning, he started over and slowly built his business into a multi-million pound concern. he supports his brother! who works for him...and thus pays the bills and supports his family ...

but #2 has saturn in 3rd and after many years in the music business, first succeeding then crashing and burning! - he has settled into a lowkey music/art career which doesn't pay much but satisfies the requirement of saturn to deal with communications, sibliings, everyday travel etc etc...i don't have to explain the house to you...

Saturn is at home in the 10th. I think a personality with Saturn in the 10th will be the most serious about their career/social status. I think this gives a lot of ambition.

From my experience, Saturn has been transiting my 9th house for quite a while, during that time I've switched universities, changed my major several times and have struggled to get decent grades. Saturn will conjunct my Midheaven very soon at 7 degrees Libra. I'm re-thinking my career options at the moment, I think I want to get into holistic medicine instead of just going to a standard University and getting my BA in something average like English. I think these choices really reflects Saturn's slow but steady move to the 10th house.

My natal Mars is also conjunct my IC at 10 degrees Aries which means Saturn will oppose my natal Mars real soon, I think more responsibilities are heading my way, but T. Saturn is also sextile my Jupiter so hopefully that will even out Saturnian restriction. In fact Saturn transits, if you go along with them run quite smoothly and in the long run they are helpful.

For instance, a few months ago T. Saturn was exactly squaring my natal Venus in the 7th house for the second time, I definitely can say I felt terribly detached and had no real enjoyment with the things I usually enjoyed. A somewhat Uranian relationships completely deteriorated during this transit, and I'm still getting over it, but in the end it made me re-evaluate everything and it liberated me from my old worries, and it also made me realize that I can do better than that person who was inconsistent and unappreciative of my generosity.

I think it can. Saturn = limitations and restrictions, so it being in the 10th can make that area your achilles heal. It's harder for you to achieve where your saturn is -- you have to work harder than others in this area.

I have Saturn in the 10th and there have been career obstacles for me. I had the Boss from hell, but with the solar eclipse from august 2008 I was offered a better job and quit. I stayed it out until I was offered a job out of the blue and I was rewarded with a better job and a great Boss. I have had a lot of restrictions, but when I stayed the course I have been rewarded. I have been abused by authority figures, so I have had to learn to stand on my own and work hard for myself and not just to please someone else. It has been quite a lesson for me though, especially with saturn in pisces in the tenth. I also have chiron there. I actually think I could be job counselor with all I have through.

There are some good answers here. I particular like katatonic's answer: "Saturn is what you feel compelled to master in life."

I understand one characteristic of the house placement of Saturn as the area of life which will make you finally grow up. So, for example, in the 10th that would mean having a successful career would make you become an adult, Saturn in 5th would mean once you had a child, in the 8th a death perhaps, and so on (with more subtle variations on house themes of course).

In regards to what you say about Saturn in the 10th, it can famously mean a rise to power (Hitler), as Saturn is exalted in the 10th. Although, it can also mean a fall from power. Saturn in the 10th is like a great tower which can collapse or from which people can fall from.

I also have Saturn in the 10th Conjunct Mars. I just went through my saturn return. I have never been able to hold a job for long. I have a hard time with failure, and authority. It's definitely a place of insecurity and anxiety.

I'm a late bloomer to a point, and just starting to find myself and what I want to focus on.

I have Saturn AND Pluto both in the 10th house in scorpio. Basically, I have to work extremely hard to get what I want and even then something beyond my control will happen and make me hit rock bottom, so that I have to start from square one again.

Saturn in the 10th promises a very long hard road. You have to deal with people all along your path trying to rip you to pieces and doing whatever it takes to make you fail. The key is to remain persistent and keep fighting. I think the lesson with this placement is to be optimistic in the face of adversity even though you tend to be more pessimistic.

My bosses always give me tons of responsibility before I've done anything to prove I can handle it. I'm always put in charge of others, which makes me uncomfortable because it's weird to manage others in tasks you have little or no experience in.

I am just now becoming successful (age 24), so hopefully I don't have anymore setbacks anytime soon. I've had enough setbacks to last a lifetime!

Wow, I agree these are excellent examples. Thank you for all your input, guys.

Saturn is transiting my 9th and studies are a concern for me as of now. I hope that when it returns in my 10th I will be more prepared for challenges in the workplace.

I agree that Saturn is where you feel compelled to master. However, it seems like a long road where you just get beat down again and again.

Liz Greene's excerpt on Saturn in the 10th indicates a powerful mother figure who suppressed the bearer's identity, and so hampers their career until late in life. I can identify with that..

There are some interesting answers here.
I have a 10th house Saturn which is quite shittily aspected. As stated by Diana, this is my Achilles Heel. I don’t want to do 10th house stuff. I am in no way ambitious, if I was given the opportunity to stay home all day and knit socks for sockless people I would be thrilled. I don’t know if it’s the conjunction to SNode or the square to Neptune but I just wasn’t in the queue when ambition was being distributed.

I enjoy my job but it is just that, it’s no career, not really any scope for advancement and I’m ok with that (for now). I get on well with my boss and have to be quite responsible and work to deadlines. I get to work autonomously for the majority of the time which suits the Aqua placement.

Even now I’m middle aged I STILL don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I have considered making a change which will involve about 3 years of study which I am fortunate to be in a position to do this but the ambition/drive to forge ahead is somewhat lacking.

Good observations!
Saturn should be aspected well to exhibit the ambitious nature.
My wife has Saturn in 10th and she is quite ambitious. I convincd her to start her career after her Saturn return to avoid the pitfalls, and to keep upgrading her knowledge/qualifications till then. Luckily she saw my Saturn Return, analyzed many others pre-Saturn Return life and took my advice happily

Then what's Saturn in the 1st???---Problems expressing your personality or knowing who you really are???

I have Saturn in 1H, but I've never had an issue with self identity...even as a child, peer pressure was never an issue. I think my biggest problem areas in life is probably career, followed by love life (or lack of).

I think it can mean what you are most serious about. Natally Saturn is in my 9th house, 5 degrees from Pluto, and my major focus in life is spirituality and philosophy (and travel!), so I don't think Saturn has been limiting at all in my case.

I too have Saturn lurking aroung in my 10th house and it sometimes feels like someone is ******** on me from a great hight.

I also have mars there too, not good. Can't stand authority. If my boss is a women we seem to end up having sex and if my boss is a guy it tends to be quite confrontational on my part. I am quite agressive by nature anyway I just can't be told what to do especially if its something that they should be doing. Maybe its the Aqua in me too that makes me feel this way.

Astra, I totaly agree with you in regards to responsibility.

When it comes to ambitions, it feels like start, stop, start, stop, start, stop.........I'm very ambitious but it seems like when I'm just about getting there then BAM! something happens and I'm back to where I started.

But I'm on a good thing now and hopefully once I'm fully qualified in my field, I will be in a much better position to have a crack at my goals which are something that I am determined to achieve, regardless of my set backs.

Saturn in 10th here, post-SR. I have been essentially doing data entry for most of the last decade by now. Not trying to get ahead, so I didn't have trouble. I do, however, have no effing clue as to what to do otherwise for a career.

this is where I'm a bit confused...I have saturn conjunct Uranus and MC in my 9th house with saturn and uranus retrograde and moving away from the 10th but in natal interpretations its always read for the 10th house.

I have sun trine all these which I think definitely helps. But as to how to interpret these positions...I'm still unsure.

I have Saturn in 10th (in Cancer) conj MC and South Node. All this is also the apex of a yod between Neptune (in 3rd) sextile Jupiter in 5th. As these are all outer planets, my chart does not progress out of this yod until after age 50! Uh, not getting outta this responsibility shtick anytime soon - so I've come to embrace it.

I worked hard bouncing around w/ not much progress or pay til my late 20s when I ended up in the career I'm in now and have been for nearly 14 years. Around 7 years ago (a mini Saturn cycle) I moved up significantly and now another change is on the way. I think I always had to work hard but once I "owned" Saturn, and took responsibility the rewards and terms definitely became better. I also have my own business/investments on the side which well supported by this placement.

I have always gotten along well with whoever I directly worked for, not as much with same level associates and although I do well in a certain way, Ketu or South Node in the 10th can make people extremely apathetic or ambivalent about striving professionally or for public acclaim. My understanding is that indicates a past life of public responsibility and a need to move away from the workaholic tendencies and focus on the personal sphere or at least find a way to integrate the 4th house energies.

Came to realize only very recently that I identify much more with my Father, his chart is actually very similar to mine w/ similar aspects and house placements and these are repeated in our composite. He was absent a lot in my youth - always working! - but we had a warm relationship. I had a LOT more trouble with my Mother - fighting, power struggles, etc. and I moved out at 13. As an adult we have peace but not too much affinity or closeness and no matter how much I've accomplished or tried, she seems fairly withholding & uninterested. A bit sad but ultimately liberating...you learn to stop seeking approval and live on your own terms.

I've heard that Saturn in 10th indicates family karma and a lack of parental figures - I would agree with that. I was emancipated very young. I also had no grandfathers and only one grandmother so I wonder if it can indicate a lack of family or "ancestors" so to speak. (I am the baby of the family.) My father's Saturn is in the 9th conj MC also - this repeats in our composite and he is actually the one who grew up fatherless (with no grandparents either.)

My Father's Mother is a Cancer with a lot of planets in my 10th(her Saturn and Pluto are conjunct MY Saturn & South Node, her Venus is also conj my MC, South Node & Saturn.) We have a significant relationship - she has supported and enouraged me a lot and is still with us at age 97. (As an aside, I looked up my other grandmother, who died when I was 3, she also has Jupiter and nodal contacts to me.)

Saturn in the 10th can definitely be challenging and definitely demands an attitude of responsibility but if you embrace it and persevere I think it can also be quite rewarding in the long run.

I have saturn conjunct midheaven, I've always known what I've wanted to do ever since I was a child. Saturn is at home in the 10th house so its actually the best placement for saturn. Yes will be some delays, but ultimately success will be yours in the long run. For others success may come early but some transit can take everything a way. But saturn's gift is stability. Unless its debilitated or badly aspected with mars

Fleudelis,
Just noticed you asked about Saturn in 8th. My Mother has this natal position. She was extremely rigid and controlling in our youth but has relaxed a lot over time.

Sadly, she was screwed out a lot of her family inheritance by a vindictive much older half-sister.She had a lot of sad family history and tragedy but now that everyone on her side has crossed over, her load is lightened. She is 72 now and has a lot of natal Scorpio in her chart. She is a very moral person and one of the toughest ladies I've ever met mentally and physically. Particularly constitutionally. She has suffered a lot of serious accidents (mostly in youth),it takes a LOT to bring her down illness wise and she only sleeps about 5 hours a night. She thinks the rest of us are wimps. ;}

Oh, she has a lot to do with money. She does bookkeeping for charities, investment clubs and has always managed the family money. Not sure it's what she loves to do but she often finds herself in that position.
My Dad has always maintained she is very financially responsible and apparently, they have really good credit. He jokes that if he was in charge, bills would always be late.

Oh, she has a great poker face, is not really curious but she always knows the dirt on everybody. Every once in a while she'll drop a bomb it's pretty funny.

I have this placement, but only using whole signs. My Saturn is in the 11th house using any other house system. I'm a late bloomer for sure, and I've always felt held back by something, or someone. Usually myself. My Saturn in square my mars in the first house. Also, I have Neptune and Uranus in the 10th and i have no idea what I would like to do career wise.

I have Saturn in the 10th house. Delays with career is an understatement. From a young age I knew what field I wanted to enter into, after high school I was unable to enter into the university course I was interested in relating to fashion design. None of my family had attended college and I simply wasn't equipped with the knowledge or financial means to do so, despite my best efforts. I worked for a few years then entered into a diploma course relating to said field which I paid for up front. Had extreme financial pressures while completing it. Once completed, struggled to find work relating to fashion design/production in my city - it is a very, very small market. Found design work in an unrelated field, worked in this role for 2 years while seeking job opportunities in other cities that had bigger fashion scenes. Unable to find work I applied for the best university in my country for fashion design, was accepted. Had to move interstate for the course, my partner at the time didn't want to move so I went alone and straight back into uni where once again I was facing financial pressures while trying to survive in a new city and complete my studies. The university was able to recognise my prior studies and shorten the course somewhat, however I had to pick up another subject this semester in order to graduate on time that they didn't recognise. Right now I am enrolled in 5 subjects, work 3 days a week and intern 1 day a week. I have always had to fight extremely hard and prove myself in a sense to get ANYTHING, even a part time job in retail when I have loads of experience, am personable and very well presented. Super frustrating. I am 28 now. I read something about Saturn 10th house-ers don't find success in career until after their first saturn return.

Another obstacle I'm facing is that the degree I'm doing is design focused whereas I've known for sometime that I would like to be a Buyer which is a totally different ball game in the fashion world. So I need to finish this degree then do more study to be capable of doing the job.

Now....if you know you'll have to rebuild again...why put so much effort into it? For example, I know I'll not have much luck with money, relationships or family so I don't put much effort in these area.

I have saturn in 10th and I've always had trouble with jobs. I also have a lot of neptune in my chart though, so it's never exactly been my #1 priority in the same way a career is to a capricorn. I know generally what I want to do but I'm not sure whether I want to live and I'm a commitment phobe when it comes to signing up with things so i'm not really gaining any experience in my field at the moment.

I have ambition, but it's not very solidified into goals. I just have a lot of things I'd love to do, but then I'd really just spend my time dreaming of all the random things I'd like to do assuming I'd have infinite time and resources. I do data entry right now (appeals to my virgo moon) and listen to music or documentaries on my headphones while I work which irritates the hell out of my coworker who i share the office with who i'm sure has a lot of capricorn because he's a lot like my mom in his work ethic.
