I'm trying to figure out if someone has a Capricorn or an Aquarius moon. After 10am on his birthday, the moon changes from Capricorn to Aquarius. The descriptions I have read for both moon signs indicate both are emotionally detached. Can anyone else provide any insight on recognizing if he could be either an Aquarius or a Capricorn moon?

Well, I'm an Aqua Sun with a large Cap stellium -- including a Cap Moon.

I think the easiest way to spot a person's moon is by how they are when by themselves or on a boring bus ride. Cap moons, like myself, tend to look a little melancholic during their down time and are known to quietly mull things over. Aqua energy is a little more buzzing, especially as a moon sign.

Also, try to gauge how concerned they are with security and achievement. Cap moons need prestige and stability to feel secure, whereas Aqua moons need to stand out to feel secure.

Lastly, the ways in which they showcase their emotions is pretty different. Cap is more practical and has innate business sense about their emotions (think a stern dad), while Aqua is just flighty and unpredictable (think bright, but rebellious teen).

Moon in Cap is more grounded, practical, materially oriented (not necessarily materialistic), tends to take things literally; emotional reserve and more emphasis on privacy. Formality or a conventional orientation.

Moon in Aqua is more free-flowing, idealistic and/or ideational/conceptual (not necessarily intellectual), tends to understand things more metaphorically; emotionally free-formed. Non-categorical, unconventional.

I would also add that Cap moon isn't fond of emotional display. The native would do little things to show his/her feelings.

Aqua moon would be very interested in discussing ideas and much less of a doer.

I have noticed most Cap moons I know are workaholic, or they always find some form of employment to fill up time.

Aqua moons might just lounge about (which is not a bad thing).

Thanks everyone for your input! I think he might be a Capricorn Moon after reading your responses. He is a Libra Sun, Scorpio Venus, and Sagittarius Mars. So it's a combination of Fire, Water, Air. I think I do pick up on Earth in him- he did mention how picky he was with food, and he seems pretty financially responsible, which both seem very Capricorn-esque.

Not always, but I find that both Capricorn and Aquarius Moon people often have a challenging relationship with their mother/maternal figure(Moon).

With Capricorn, she may be someone who constantly depends on them and thus "forces" them to grow up.

Or she may have been someone who withheld love/ emotions from them and expected them to above-average achievers.

It is also possible that she was very ambitious and was very much "the working woman". So she didn't have the homey feel of being a mother.

Even though she was a capable mother. She may have lacked the "ease" that is often there in nurturing, guiding and openly loving/being affectionate with her children.

With Aquarius Moon, the mother may not have been categorically speaking "Motherly".

She may have been very unreliable, her behavior not "age appropriate" or role appropriate.

It is also possible that she was very lack luster in her responsibilities as a mother, was a little chaotic/wreaked instability and more likely to have wanted to "befriend" her kids-rather than mother them.

Also, her kids may have competed with her friends/her associations/her external commitments for her time and attention.

I would say they probably have qualities of both, so would be hard to guess.

I did the chart of a co-worker and turned out he was a Leo moon, which surprised me. He is Gemini sun also, but a reserved person. His moon is actually on the cusp with Virgo, which makes more sense to me.

The bottom line is what does he need to feel secure and what does he need in order to to show his most intimate side to you?

If he NEEDS tradition, and needs a stable partner with near perfect reputation who he can trust unconditionally and will always accommodate sexual needs, he is Cap Moon. If he needs a best friend in a mate, an intellectual equal he would be Aqu Moon.
