Thanks for reading

I have put together a sequence of links and keywords from two very good websites, plus added a few tips to get you up to speed at interpreting charts. Enjoy.

1. Online Chart Calculation
===========================
http://www.astro.com

The Free Service: On their "Free Horoscopes" page, if you scroll down to the "Chart Drawing, Ascendant" option, you'll be able to input birth data and let the program draw up your chart for you. If you create a free account, you can save and access up to 100 charts online in "My Astro" at the site (you simply need to enter your email address and set up a password).

If you are an intermediate or advanced student of Astrology, use their "Extended Chart Selection" option. This allows you to tweak your chart by choosing from different house systems, adding asteroids and various points to your charts, etc. You can also create composite charts, transits and progressions, and more here. Different chart styles can be selected, and there are also grids and the like

It is best to select the "Equal House" System in the extended chart selection page. Default is the Placidus System, which is great if you are born within the Tropics.

2. About The 12 Signs
This site has excellent keywords to help you quickly learn the basics of each sign of te Zodiac. http://www.astrology-numerology.com/keywords.html
Additional tips:

Elements of Signs:
==================
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are Fire Signs, and they have the property of the Fire Element: Self Motivated Action.
They seem to have unlimited energy.

Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are Earth Signs, and they like the Earth Element are materially oriented, practical and grounded.

Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are Air Signs, very intellectual but never grounded, having the head in the clouds.

Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces are Water Signs, and they are very emotional, fill out whatever space they occupy. If life becomes stagnant, they to behave like stagnant water. They need to be fresh and dynamic like the Spring or Waterfall.

Gender of Signs:
================
Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius are Masculine Signs. Direct and Active. The other six are Feminine signs. Indirect and Passive.

Position of Signs:
==================
Cardinal Signs: These have excellent leadership quality:
Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Fixed Signs: These signs are stubborn in their position/opinion/characteristics.
Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

Mutable Signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces.
They are very flexible.

Now re-read the short description of Signs along with keeping the Gender, Element and Position.
Example: Cancer is a Cardinal, Feminine, Water Sign with these keywords of being introverted, reserved, emotional, sensitive, moody, sympathetic, security-conscious, prudent, retentive, domestic, maternal, protective, quiet, calm, imaginative, conscientious, and quite the traditionalist.
You will now grasp the description of Cancer Sign as if you have known it for years.
Do it for all 12 Signs, and you are on your way.

3. About the 12 Houses
Please Ignore the rulers of the houses, just focus on the last column of the table. http://www.astrology-numerology.com/housesummary.html

4. Basic Interpretation of a Sign in a particular House: http://www.astrology-numerology.com/housecusps.html

5. The Planets in Astrology
Characteristics of the Planets: http://www.indigoray.net/lessons.html

Interpreting Planets in Signs and Houses, please read while keeping the characteristic of the planet in mind. http://www.astrology-numerology.com/insigns.html http://www.astrology-numerology.com/inhouses.html

6. Astrological Aspects between planets: http://www.indigoray.net/lessons4.html

7. Aspect Configurations: http://www.astrology-numerology.com/configurations.html

8. Example of Putting it together:

a) Jupiter conjunct Venus in Scorpio Second house.
Philosophy and Artistic Beauty merge in the Sign of Sex and the House of Cashflow.
Could be like a:
1. A discussion about sale of 19th century nude paintings
2. Blossoming into an intelligent and sexually confident person who will use his or her charm to earn money.
3. ... use your imagination.

b) Mars in Aries first house square Moon in Capricorn 9th House:
Fiery Drive/Ambition for Independent Self Expression clashes with Subconscious impulse to follow established religious/orthodox dictates. Resolution is by pioneering new ideas from old scriptures or established traditions.

Keep playing with many permutations and combinations. The more you meditate on the descriptions of signs and planets in houses, the easier this will get. Try to imagine the descriptions, try to recall life events or movie scenes where the keywords match.

9. Transits: http://www.indigoray.net/lessons5.html

10. Mathematical Astrology: Here, the Planets are arranged as per mean distance from the Earth. This technique is statistically superior to traditional systems for assigning the planetary rulership of a sign. And note that this system has nothing to do with Houses. It is strictly for rulership.
Traditional rulerships have already been mentioned in the planetary descriptions page.

Moon Rules Cancer
Sun - Leo
Mercury - Virgo and Gemini
Venus - Libra and Taurus
Mars - Scorpio
Jupiter - Sagittarius
Saturn - Capricorn
Uranus - Aquarius
Neptune - Pisces
Pluto - Aries

You will find the mathematical rulerships very useful after a couple years of experience with chart interpretations.

Thats really helpful. Thank you

Do you have any links for the Asteroids and their meanings. I did see the one link for Juno,Ceres, etc...

But I was wondering what Asteroides do you think are the most important.

Hi All,
Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully next month I will put together the most concise links and material for advanced topics, including Asteroids.

Hi Lonake,
In Mathematical Astrology, Pluto rules Aries and Mars rules Scorpio. This is to complete the mathematical sequence of planets in ascending order of mean distance from the Earth. Many do not know that the Sun is closer to the Earth on average than Mercury and Venus. As per this theory, 2 more objects/planetoids/planets will be discovered beyond Pluto and they will rule Taurus and Gemini. This is a reason why Gemini is the only Sign whose symbol has 2 human beings. Today we call them Twins but after the last planet is discovered, the sign will mean Soul and Higher Soul, and this will cause tremendous evolution in Geminis and all those with planets in Gemini.

Interesting explanation, IQ about why Mars rules Scorpio and Pluto Aries. I am having some difficulty with it because an important part of the symbolism of Pluto has to do with death, and the scorpion is an animal that can inflict death with surgical precision, that's why he is so feared. It is also a dark animal that likes to live in dark places and burrows under the earth, and all this is associated with the dark Lord of the Underworld as represented by Pluto/Hades.

Mars to me is like a ram, impulsive, active, war-like and quarrelsome, quite suited to rule the first sign of the zodiac. In the journey of human consciousness as it goes through the houses, the first sign is like a baby who knows no other laws but his own and expresses his feelings, wants and dislikes without artifice. It represents pure action and does not think before it acts, which is well symbolized by the Ram.

Hi Belage,
Lot of aggressive marketing was done by Theosophists for Pluto to be associated with 8th House matters like Death, historically Saturn/Capricorn was always associated with Death.
The greatest Genocide Expert of our planet: Chairman Mao was a Capricorn, not Scorpio.

Carl Tobey, the principle proponent of this house system, was threatened with dire consequences by occult societies for revealing a hidden secret! The masses evolved enough to know astrology are meant to follow the wrong system so that they don't defeat the Occult Adepts.

In anycase, the Mathematical System will prove itself later ths century when Pluto enters Aries.

In Myth, Pluto "independently" and "impulsively" acts to "chase" and get the girl Proserpine whome he desires, and when he allows her to visit her Mom for 6 months, it shows the onset of "Spring". Aries rules the Head, the sacred gift of Pluto is a "Helmet", which helps Perseus. When Pluto was discovered, the biggest event was not a dark period of death of millions but rather the biggest stock market collapse in history [Aries rules Entrperneurs, gambling, speculation]. Aries is fondly called the Superman of the Zodiac, guess which Comic Book character started very shortly after Pluto's discovery?

Most remarkable, the Planet "Pluto", name suggested by Venetia Burney, was officially named on 24th March 1930. Guess which Sign the Sun was in on 24th March?
Aries.

Pluto was first hypothesized right through the 1840s by Urbain Verrier. Where was Pluto in the 1840s?
Aries.
( And in Verrier's chart, we have Sun conjunct Pluto exact! )

If we always look to officialdom for establishing the truth, the world would perpetually be in a dark age. Venetia and Verrier were both born on a 11. 11:11.
A sign to wake up to the truth ?

To IQ,
quote:
Chairman Mao was a Capricorn, not Scorpio.
I don't make pronouncements on people or events based on the sun sign.
Hitler was a Taurus.
Pol Pot was a Taurus.
Saddam Hussein was also a Taurus.
Isn't Taurus ruled by Venus?
Vlad Dracula was born on November 4th, he was scorpio... I could use this to say, Ha, proves my point, but again, I don't rely on the sun sign as an indicator.

quote:
When Pluto was discovered, the biggest event was not a dark period of death of millions but rather the biggest stock market collapse in history [Aries rules Entrperneurs, gambling, speculation].

My understanding is that commerce is ruled by Gemini/Mercury, not by Mars. And that the stock market crash had more to do with Pluto being in Cancer at the time, opposite Capp, which rules big money and corporation. Just as now we have Pluto in Capp, and stock market and banking and commerce are experiencing a lot of painful transformations.

Pluto is not out there saying LOOK AT ME!!! Pluto/Hades as the Lord of the Underworld is more symbolic of things hidden and not easily apparent and which express themselves in the open when they have already gathered enough power to strike. Pluto will stay hidden and wait until the time is right. It likes to be in the shadows.
Pluto's discovery coincided with the first nuclear fission. That was the start of the nuclear bomb which has been the greatest threat ever to mankind.
Pluto discovery coincided with the rise of the mafia, an underworld of crime, money and blood loyalty.

quote:
Most remarkable, the Planet "Pluto", name suggested by Venetia Burney, was officially named on 24th March 1930. Guess which Sign the Sun was in on 24th March?
Aries.

Again, I wouldn't just look at a sun sign to make pronouncements about an event or person.
quote:
Pluto was first hypothesized right through the 1840s by Urbain Verrier. Where was Pluto in the 1840s?
Aries.

I am not sure what that proves. When Pluto was officially named in 1930, Pluto was in Cancer...
quote:
( And in Verrier's chart, we have Sun conjunct Pluto exact! )

As a matter of fact, Sun was conjunct Pluto by 3 degrees in Pisces, and trined Uranus by 1 degree in Scorpio. umm.

There are a lot of correspondence and overlapping between Mars and Pluto. It has been said that Pluto is the higher octave of Mars. Just like Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury and Neptune the higher octave of Venus...

Interesting about Saturn's association with 8th house/death. Makes me also think of Terminus, the Roman god of boundaries.

It`s the Mars/Venus-degree.
Or if we use Pluto as ruler of Aries it is a Pluto/Venus-degree.

Interestingly Saturn was associated with Death, when the planet Saturn was considered being the "last" one, the frontier.
And then when they discovered Pluto, thinking this was the last frontier, Pluto was given "rulership" over the end of matter, just like his "end-position" in the series of planets would indicate.
But then he got demoted and we realized he wasn`t the "end of all".

I also found it interesting that he lost planet status and got demoted to being a "Dwarf planet", while Ceres got promoted from an asteroid to that status.
In some sense it seems like Ceres, even though maybe not defeating Pluto, gets to be his "equal".
The two opponents now "seeing eye to eye".

I wonder if that means that the caring / nurturing will become stronger in a global sense?

I also thought it was interesting that Pluto now is in Capricorn, the opposing position of its discovery.
Even though it feels a bit "threatening" to me.

EDIT:
lol
I just wanted to check when Ceres and Pluto will be conjunct this or next year, and it turns out they are conjunct NOW.

The opponents side by side - and both retograde- in Capricorn.
Hmm.

That's why I don't pay too much attention to "end-position" of discovery as an indication of death or end of all.

The DEATH card in the tarot is not the last card. It is the 13th card. And just like the death card, Pluto does not mean exclusively death, it also means rebirth and transformation. There is no such thing as an "end of all."

Belage,

I absolutely agree with you; that is why I personally associate Pluto more with transformation than anything else.
Death is just one form of transformation; but limiting Pluto`s symbolism to that, is, well limiting.

Anyway I was just noticing that there seems to be a synchronicity between the "end position" of a planet, and the symbolism of "ending".

Could of course be completely coincidental. And even if not, it doesn`t say anything about the validity of this symbolism.

I was just noticing that. That`s all.

And I think it's wonderful for mankind and planet earth that Ceres has been promoted. Ceres/Demetra is the counterbalance to Hades/Pluto. Ceres is the goddess of harvest and seasons so her powers could help as we are facing global warming and nuclear annihilation from wars.

As for Pluto being demoted, I don't think Pluto cares. Pluto does not need to be out there with a title as a planet to continue doing his work. Of all the planets, perhaps it is the only one that actually loves operating in the dark.

Yes, DD, to me, the "end position" of a planet as signifying "ending" is a bit simplistic. In this vast universe, new planets will always be discovered as some point or another.

I would look rather at the sign Pisces, which is the last of the 12 signs. Unless our basic astrological system changes, we have 12 signs, not less, not more, and Pisces being the last one would be to me indicative of "end of all" if any. I would think Neptune, its ruler, would signify going from a material realm into a more spiritual, ethereal realm...

Yep

That didn't happen until the discovery of Eris which is larger than Pluto. The debate of Pluto's planetary status escalated because of the object was larger than Pluto. The astronomers were constantly searching for objects that were Pluto's size or larger since the 1990's before they hit the jackpot with Eris.

Eris' orbit is Persephone/Proserpina-like for half of its orbital period is very near Pluto and it's very far away from Pluto for the other half of the period.

It is a scattered disk object. It's not a classical kuiper belt object aka cubewano nor is it as an object with 3:2 orbital resonance with Neptune aka plutino.

Its orbit is highly eccentric. It orbits well off the ecliptic. It was found in the constellation, Cetus. It's a highly nonconformist object that makes Uranus look conformist.

Michael Brown gave Eris its name because of the discord, debate, and controversy behind its discovery in regards to Pluto's planetary status.

He noted that mythological Eris made men quarrel and fight by making them think their opinions are right and other's are wrong.

Overall, it seems that Eris can be about equality, diversity and not just controversy, discord.

In the dictionary, eristic means being controversial, disputant, discordant, reformer

so far we have the following classed as dwarf planets from largest to smallest:

Eris,Pluto,Makemake,Haumea,Ceres

there are more to follow

right now, it's estimated to be over 70 candidates that meet dwarf planet criteria.
The largest dwarf candidates are Sedna,Orcus,Quaoar,Varuna,Ixion

I am going to start paying attention to it more how it manifests in my life and in the life of others.

Lol, we have succeeded in derailing IQ's original initiative. Sorry IQ

To NEWBIES: I hope we didn't confuse you. Astrologers do not always agree with each other and there are different schools of thoughts. You do your own research and you come to your own conclusions.

I may not agree with IQ, but I still think he is an awesome and outstanding astrologer, and very generous with his time and knowledge. You'll learn a lot by paying attention to his posts.
