This post is inspired because someone asked if I'm an empath in another post, because I am a Pisces sun and moon in 8th house. I honestly have no idea what makes an empath. I've googled it but don't know if I'm one 100%. I identify with about 75% of the identifiers of one, but I find most of them are generic, such as- "enjoy spending time in nature with animals". However, I can identify with some that don't feel so generic. For example, while I can easily identify and feel someone's emotions, I cannot feel someone's physical pain. Do all empaths have the ability to feel someone's physical pain?

Is anyone here an empath? How do you "self-diagnose" yourself as an empath?

If you're an empath, can you discuss how you realized you were one. And what in your chart reflects this?

I believe empathy is both a state of mind and a choice.

No idea what *an* empath is. Sounds like internet spirituo-babble to me, like 'crystal child', 'indigo', etc. I developed my spirituality and soul long before the internet arrived, so I guess I am old school.

IMHO we are ALL special. And we can ALL develop high-mindedness, intuition and humanitarianism.

I explain empathy vs sympathy. Sympathy is the feeling when you go to a funeral and feel sorry for the other person's loss - empathy and an empath is someone who goes to the funeral and gets bombarded by the energy of loss to the extent that it's almost like they've lost someone precious themselves, the actual feeling as another person experiences it.

Being an empath isn't really anything special, it's mostly due to aspect configurations and early life experiences which caused a lack of boundaries in us to the extent that our energies and senses are heightened in the feeling aspect either as a defense mechanism or coping mechanism. Eventually what started out as a difficult placement can be used to benefit others and is just another facet of reality that makes everything interesting. It gives one insight because we can feel past the mask shown by other people and truly know how others are feeling, but it takes time to master. To discern when it's worth helping others, to give them support or to let them hide behind their mask because it's safer for them.

Moon in Pisces, Moon sq. Neptune for me.

Anyone can be an empath, but some will need to 'learn' meditation techniques to subtle their ego/personality/mind because they don't have as much water planets or energies in their chart. To merge into others is very similar to merge into God as we are all one - but some people don't like or understand ego dissolution and view it as a negative.

I'd guess this explains it:

Naturally, the person you should be asking this of is the one who asked you if you're an empath.

Thank you for your explanations! Maybe I'm just a very strong sympathetic person. I do not know lol!

It's confusing because I can easily pick up on someone's emotions. And I start feeling the way that they feel, very easily. My mom is very energetic and anxious and hates waiting around (Gemini) and when she gets like it I feel stressed because I get so anxious as well automatically. Or when I am around someone who is feeling happy and bouncy and energetic, I mirror that as well.

But how do I know whether that is just me being sympathetic and reacting to how they feel, versus automatically doing it because of empath qualities. I guess I have a hard time differentiating because I have always been this way and I don't know how it would be like not experiencing this every day.

Hmmm I'm not sure either if I am to be honest. I'm just someone that tries their best to help anyone out in need and I always put others' needs before my own.

Being an empath...as in psychically feeling the humanity of others...doesn't necessarily make people helpful to those in pain. It can make them flee human contact, or seek only those who are relatively happy and calm for the soothing effects, and to avoid painful ones. And in extreme cases they should, lest they drown with those in pain (and be unable to help them even though they want the pain to stop). This can ironically make empaths even more unlikely to help that those who are actually compassionate without any psychic quality making them experience (and endure) a bit of what others are.

I hope it helps. I've been having a heavier problem with the empathic intermingle within me in 2020. So many
in my little area are effected and I've felt the unwanted astral attachments try to invade me during these times.
This frequency music is helpful.

I think we all are, in varying degrees. I’m not up to writing more right now. Wasn’t even going to visit today.

Sort of agree with Teasel, but would add that psychopaths/sociopaths/people on the ASPD spectrum aren't, and narcissists--especially malignant narcissists are usually quite low in empathy. There are some that I call "soft narcissists" that do have some appreciable empathy at times. For for the rest of us, it's a spectrum and most of us go up and down the spectrum some depending, but are always more or less at least on the spectrum of having some attunement to empathy.

That's normal, isn't it?

I resonated with some of the signs and traits of an Empath but I don't consider myself one. Some of those traits can be applied to a lot of people.

No it's not believe me.. You are lucky if you haven't met really cold people. Most of my relatives are like that.

Really cold (like literally emotion-less) people are pretty rare within my midst. Some people appear cold but it's more like a cover up or protective gear. On that note, I was rather emotion-less when I was a kid. My brother once said I was cold.

I am. I've worked very hard to try to turn it off and set boundaries. I'm very careful who I let get close to me and those who do I always check our synastry beforehand.

I can feel what my family is feeling, especially my mother. She was in the hospital a couple of years ago with the flu and I started having panic attacks. I called her and her doctor put her on a really heavy steroid that caused her to have panic attacks at that same time. I've also "heard" her calling me from a couple states away when she wrecked her car. It's the strongest with her but I've done the same thing with my siblings and my children. I've "heard" them crying when they aren't with me. I've also felt what animals are feeling. I foster kittens and one was dying, it wasn't pleasant. If that happens, a shower usually helps to disconnect me from their energy. Coworkers are a soft spot for me too, I have to keep a distance between us.

I have two stelliums, sun, venus, mercury, and chiron in the 12H and moon, Pluto, saturn, and Mars in the 6H. Jupiter and Neptune in my 8H.
