This asteroid always puzzles me.

It is said to be indicating "unconditional love".

But what kind of love are we speaking of?

Is it a more platonic, asexual, unromantic, family- or even friendship-like love? A sympathy and affinity without any "romantic flavour"?

Or is it that form of deep romantic appreciation, that maybe lack sexual attraction and urges, but still is romantic in nature?

Anyone?

In Portuguese, "amor" simply means love. I guess that the meaning of love/amor would depend on each person thought, since we all see love differently.

Personally, I see love as that affectionate feeling we have for someone, and not exactly about romance or sex.

Yes, I also think that love may be different for all of us.

But I do love my mother, too, yet this is a different "love" from the one I feel for a romantic partner.

Anyway I just stumbled across an article on that subject.

"your natal chart, Amor symbolizes the connection you share with your version of true love and romance. You can glean a great deal of information about your attitude and expectation levels regarding romance by sign and rulership alone. Consider the aspects to Amor’s ruler and how they are affected romantically by transit over time. You will see a pattern here and begin to acknowledge what to work with in the long term. You will also find with aspects to Amor the topics of sacrifice, abandonment and dedication would be extremely strong"

So, according to this article, it seems that Amor is not so much about "family-love", but has a clearly romantic side to it, too.
Interestingly on its discovery chart the Sun was in Pisces. Fits the dissolving boundaries quite well, and my confusion. lol

Eros seems to be a "Leo", which resonates quite strongly with its nature as I see it.

DD,
We have Amor conjunct Saturn in our synastry. My Saturn conjunct his Amor. I'm never quite sure of the exact meaning though. He "loves" my Saturn qualities? Or do I just stifle his "Amor"? His own Saturn qualities are very strong. Capricorn Moon, and that Moon rules his Cancer Sun. So with a Capricorn Moon, he does feel more comfortable with my Saturn qualities, which goes back to his relationship with his Mother, and her Saturn/Capricorn type personality. And I also have Saturn in my first house, so even with my Sag ASC, I do project quite a bit of Saturn/Capricorn.

Hm, I like that description of Amor, I think it makes sense. For example my Amor is in Capricorn 1st, Saturn is the ruler in 11th House conjunct Mercury in Sag. So far I've noticed that I like intelligent men, men with some depth and even a little bit of the strong silent type. A man of few words but very clear & strong actions kinda rings my bell. I do want someone with a sense of humor & sense of adventure too and a best friend is always great, so I suppose thats the Sag/11th house coming into play.

I generally do not to superficial or shallow. Yuck.

Excellent description DD, and I agree.

For me Amor has always been romantic. To understand the Asteroids purpose in synastry one must first look at the word..AMOR...what does it mean?
What Energy does this word have behind it.

First off the word Amor means love in many languages..
It is a noun...and not so easily defined because it is a root word, meaning that other words are forms of it.
The other forms of are love and liking. It comes from Roman Mythology and is the name for the God of Love, so Cupid also went by the name Amor.
And as you wrote DD Eros is his counter part.

For me Amor only plays a significant role in romantic synastry based on mutual love....mutual romantic love it cannot be unrequitted to be felt in its entirety though Amor can show where it isnt...nor the kind that makes you want to rip there clothes off thats more Eros.
Amor is the soft love you feel laying in there arms in front of a fire after a long day of working together...its that feeling of contentment like your soul is home...and comfortable here....that is Amor..the kind of sappy love that makes most people wanna barf! haha

In my chart with my highest frequency romantic relationship to date:

Our Amors are conjunct by sign...
Mine is in my 9th and his is in his 3rd.
This shows how that love is easy for us to talk about...expression of it flow freely between him and I.

My Amor is conjunct his Moon and Chiron.
And his Amor is conjunct my Horus astoroid
His Amor opposes my Uranus
His Amor trines my Saturn
My Amor trines his Pluto
His Amor sextiles my Venus
His Amor is inconjunct my Moon and Neptune.
Mine Sextiles his Sun

And there is alot of romance between us in general. Thats just a given..at first I thought it would go away...but he is soooo romantic and I am too....that we just immediately get lost in it...cant help it, but you can see where Amor tells as story.
We met online....I loved him from the moment I spoke with him and if I had met him in person it would have been love at first sight for both of us. We are so extremely attracted to each other that its ridiculous...Saturn and Pluto are definitely felt..and we must make efforts to keep a balance...I dont even have to guess, there has never been much of discussion of what we need from each other because how I love is how he likes to be love...its just a given.
It would disgust me and I imagine one day it might....but it is one the best "highs" known to man.

But we do have a mutual Sun Conjunct Venus that contributes as well.

Hope this helps DD.

Yes, that liking / loving of the qualities of Amor-signs or aspects makes sense.

But what I want to know is, what KIND of loving is it?
A romantic - affectionate - true love - partner oriented kind of love?
Or is it "just" compassionate, giving, but entirely unromantic kind of love?

Oh it is romantic for sure...Amor=Cupid you cannot have that kind of love without the romance side of it.

Think of Valentines Day and the way you feel about your lover that day...its not so much about sex as it is wanting to be romantic...affectionate and thats based on partner oriented kind of love.

Compassionate giving...but entirely unromantic kind of love is agape love. To me this has more of a Neptune feel to love, spiritual and compassionate... and so therefore can be more easily confused...which is why I am wary of Neptune in Romantic synastry unless it is balanced by more raw Energies, like Mars, Sun, Venus, and Pluto connections.

From the little information I've gotten on it---> I've always thought of it to be the equivalent of Venus in Pisces.

I would like to understand this asteroid better since it conjuncts my Ascendant.

Yeah, there is definitely some piscean/neptunian overtones to it. It might explain the annoyingly sticky situations I get into sometimes concerning other people.

ORBM,

you put exactly and superbly into words, what I felt about Amor.
I am glad that you did, so I feel confirmed.

I really love that asteroid.
Well, it is squeezed in between Valentine and Mars and conjunct both, in the 12th house. Of course, where else?

BTW how would you define the difference between Amor and Valentine?

As per my current research Amor seems to play a significant role in synastries, at least equally to Eros. And what I noticed in my synastries particularly (but it popped up in others frequently, too) is an Amor-Juno-aspect, as well as Juno-Valentine. I find that so fascinating.
(Amor-Psyche happens frequently, too).

The pisces feel makes sense, too. In Amor`s discovery chart the Sun was in Pisces. Interestingly in Psyche`s discovery chart the Sun was in Pisces, too.

Well did I ever just learn something from you!

His Valentine opposes my Sun
His Juno trines my Amor
My Valentine trines his Amor
His Psyche trines my Valentine
His Juno my Asc/Valentine/Saturn and my Amor are in a grand earth trine
My Juno is Conj his Venus
Psyche conjunt his Eros...........

It goes on and on actualy...mostly trines, oppositions and conjunctions....

Oh and for me Valentine is a more one on one but its that special one, where everything tells you he is the one and for me that has always been an indication as to how deep our connections are.

Sort of like Amor is that emotion you always have for someone you have something "more" for...that crush type feeling.
Where as Valentine is when you have butterflies in your stomach and you can't eat...or think really. I've only been that way twice....in both, there Valentines interacted with my personal planets and angles.....and let me tell you its a doozy.
And Valentine in our Composite was off the chain as well.

So Valentine would be like an intensified Amor?

I actually never had really strong Valentine aspects in my synastries. My Valentine is unaspected natally, too, and in the 12th house.

But now I have a synastry with quite some Valentine aspects, but curiously they are mostly harmonious.

With about 2 degree orb we have:

my Valentine sextiles his Saturn exactly
his Valentine trine my Saturn

my Valentine sextiles his Vertex
his Valentine trine my Vertex

my Valentine trines his Juno exact
his Valentine trine my Juno

my Valentine sextiles his Venus

my Valentine trine his ASC
(his Valentine conjuncts my secondary ASC)

his Valentine trine my Eros

(our Valentines are in the same sign, but not conjunct: his is 19 Scorpio; mine is 27 Scorpio, probably does not mean much except that our Valentine both have Scorpio quality; his is in the 8th house, mine in 12th house)

I know conjunctions would be probably stronger, but I was really surprised to see these sextiles and trines here, and even some nice DW`s.
Actually we have a Grand trine in water, compromised of his Valentine, my Juno and my Saturn.
And we have another Grand trine in water, created by my Valentine, his ASC and his Juno.

I am not sure how to interprete this though. But I like it.

Oh btw and my Amor conjuncts his Boda exactly (happening on our mutual Ireland-Ireland-conjunction in his 8th and my 12th house, which led me to the celtic asteroids, and it turns out that he has an exact ARthur-Merlin-conjunction, which falls onto my Guinevere-Spirit conjunction. And his Valentine is conjunct Camelot, flat on my secondary ASC and sec NN - I guess I do not have to search for a past life line. ).

Anyway his Amor conjunct his Mars and Jupiter and trines his Chiron exactly.
And his Amor/ Mars / Jupiter and Chiron make a Grand Earthtrine with my Venus/Isis/Osiris/Spirit/Guinevere (and his Arthur and Merlin; actually my Draco Camelot is there, too) in Capricorn.

The synastry is not so "action-packed" like some of my others are, but it intrigues me nevertheless. Well he intrigues me I guess.

Oh and I agree with you on Neptune. I suspect that Neptune, as spiritual and wonderful he is, can sometimes "platonize" too much, especially in conjunction.
The square might be more confusing than anything else. lol

BTW WOW, your aspects sound so beautiful, so harmonious.
Do you experience all these trines as a wonderful loving harmonious flow and exchange of affectionate energy?

EDIT:
Oh and I just noticed:

The composite has:

AMOR exact conjunct TRUE NODE in Libra in 9th house, sextile SATURN in Leo in 7th house

VALENTINE conjunct LUST conjunct ANGEL (all with a one degree orb) in Scorpio in 10th house, opposing JUNO in Taurus in 4th house exact, and sextile MOON in Cappy in 12th house exact (of course that means that there is an exact trine of MOON and JUNO).
Unfortunately SATURN squares VALENTINE / ANGEL / LUST and JUNO.

That's pretty intense. Do you see this person often....have you dated. There is no way in the world you don't have some connection if there is some attraction.

Hi guys

Can i pitch in and say that i love the symmetry and balance of the Amor number (1221).
I see AMOR as balanced, secure love. It has a wholeness and completeness within itself that is unlike cupid or valentine. It is always in balance and steady, whereas cupid and valentine are a bit more WHAM BAM!

I see AMOR building over time to produce a long-term gentle intensity, if that makes sense.

My AMOR trines my loves AMOR.
My AMOR is cj my venus and his mars and opposes his valentine.
His AMOR opposes his venus.
Grand trine of his AMOR/my KAALI and his union/his mars and my venus/amor conjunct.

Interesting question DD. I have Amor conjunct my North Node so if it's sexually based love, I'm in trouble.

I think it's love, pure and simple, not complicated by anything else - human attachment, desire, ideals, fantasy, etc. Divine love - that we see the divine in everyone and everything and we show that of ourselves.

ORBM,

no, we haven`t dated. We don`t even know each other, really. Well, that is not that much of a difference to my previous synastries, is it?
We had a talk once, during quite unusual circumstances (at least unusual for me), and I was so surprised, how easy this talk flowed. I am actually a pretty reserved and shy person, but while talking to him I had the feeling I have never been more myself than at that moment, and I actually liked that Self of mine.
I probably wouldn´t have talked to him in the first place (yes it was me who initiated the talk; he seems to lure out the Sag or Mars-conj.-ASC traits in me. lol), if he hadn`t somehow "payed attention" to me before, in a so unusual environment. I was supposed to pay attention to HIM, not the other way round. Don`t know why, and it was nothing big, but well, I am usually having my invisibility cap near by, and I USE it, quite often; if I want to I can just disappear into the background (Neptune on ASC I guess), but that invisibility thing didn`t work with him.
As I said, there was nothing big happening, but these little things just made me wonder. Besides he felt so familiar, as if I have known him from my childhood on. As a matter of fact we even could have crossed paths during childhood, as I was often in his birthcity, visiting my great grandma. LOL
Anyway, as I said, there is no connection, no relationship, no dating, nothing. You couldn`t even call it a real aquaintanceship; yet for some reason I seem to end up on locations where he is, too, without having planned on seeing him there, before. Usually I don`t even know he will be there. It just strikes me as a bit odd.

And I find something else really cute. Even though he is in a total different profession than me, he sometimes is teaching the pupils at a school in his hometown about his profession.
Well, he is a Sag like me, so I guess all of us are teachers, somehow. lol

Oh yes, maybe I do have a tiny little crush on him, but it is quite harmless. I just was wondering about these harmonious Valentine synastry, and even more wondering how he can feel so familiar to me.
I have met some people, I kinda "knew" inside of me, but this is a degree of familiarity, that I have never come across before. A total stranger shouldn`t feel like I have spent my whole life with him. And I do not even really remember any past lives (except for that dream of Glastonbury).

There was also something strange, cause some years ago, before I had even seen him, I suddenly would feel / sense the auric imprint of someone around me. A "mystery man".
And one or two weeks later I met him, and he has the exact same "auric feel" to him like that Mystery man (I can`t even say: from my dreams; cause I was wide awake, when I sensed this energy around me).

Some things that i thought were quite strange / funny / interesting, too has to do with our names and numerology actually.

His last name is part of my whole name; and my first name is woven into his whole name. Strange, hu?

His lifepath number is 3, my lifepath number is 33 (6);
my full name has the number 3.
His first name has the number 3.

We first "met" on the third (3) june (6) in 2006.

Really odd, isn`t it?
But I have always liked the sequence 3-6-9.

I believe this is more of a deeper mental bond.

I dont think it indicates sexual attraction either way, it's more of a soul level of love.

What one would need to love someone unconditional. Accepting the good with the bad no matter what.

I don't think this is something that is felt right away, its something that must be worked at, and progressed via communication,(and depending on what signs its in) and to dig into true soul seeking through each other.
Which is maybe why it says platonic, its the inner depths of love, that has nothing to do with the physical either way...

I've my amor conj my wertex at 26' in SAG in house 5. The people I love in my life have not any strong connection to my amor/wertex in my chart.

It seems more like this is a connection to my outer world and me. I can more see it's as an importent and visible superficial point of reaction from me and the world which suggest people around me.
