yesterday i received a notice that i won a million dollars in a readers digest/pepsi "million dollar giveaway". since i hadn't entered anything even remotely similar i looked up online and found this...so beware..

"Is the Pepsi Cola Readers digest one million dollar giveaway legit?
In: Pepsi [Edit categories]

I copied this off the Pepsi.com website as I had received a letter and a check congratulating me for being the jackpot winner of one million dollars I called the bank in LA and they had NO ACCOUNT by the routing and check number, The address on the check was Finuera St Ste 108....So in my search this is what I found On the Pepsi Website.....Hope this answers your question,

Fraud Alert: We recently learned of a mail fraud scam that is falsely using the PepsiCo name. It claims that individuals have won "one million dollars" and a chance to appear on TV to win one billion dollars. They also offer a check for thousands of dollars, in exchange for personal information. This is currently being mailed to some consumers' homes and we want the public to be alerted that PepsiCo did not initiate, nor does it endorse this activity. The check is not ours and has no value. We do not use these types of incentives for the purpose of collecting personal information from our consumers, and we would never ask our customers to divulge any private information. Please do not respond to the letters or attempt to cash these fraudulent checks. If you receive a mailing of this nature, we ask that you forward it to us at Consumer Relations, 1 Pepsi Way, Somers, NY 10589.

Thanks for giving us the chance to clarify the situation, and we encourage you to share this information with anyone who you think may have received this mailing so that they are not victimized by this fraud. We regret any inconvenience or concern."

mine doesn't offer to give me the chance at a billion and be on tv but i haven't made the phonecall to the "rep" yet either...

the check LOOKS legitimate, and it is amazing that they have the b*lls to use readers digest and pepsi as source, but it does appear to be a scam looking for your personal id...

Why can't they devote their enterprising skills to creating a business that could offer people genuine employ?

I get endless streams of mails from banks I don't have money with - and automated calls offering me loans. It's very annoying to leave cooking to take the phone to have my time wasted.
