have some closed shoes that don't get wet, get an umbrella, don't be scared by the skinheads/shaved male, it's fashion there, watch out when u cross the road it's the other way around, do you like to walk? cause it's a BIG city, there is an excellent, i mean excellent esoteric bookshop called WATKINS near trafalgar square (a must see), also a couple of other interesting bookshops near covent garden, i'll get back to you with the addresses, hmm, what else, good bagels in brick lane, also, 101 there(trendy bar)for some show in the west end, u can buy half price tickets just before the beginings, or usually on wednesday, but check which show because for ex les miserables are usually sold out buy time out and a week bus pass (cheaper way - tube is quite expansive) last thing, there are cameras everywhere there, look up and u are sure to see at least one IP: Logged |

DAmn it, PIre, I should have asked you before I went to London myself.  I was of course around Trafalgar Square a lot, but somehow managed to NOT see that bookstore.
Well, I guess that gives me a reason to get back there asap.

DD it's in a small street, not visible at all. the feeling of peace when you open the door is amazing, 2 floors, big shelves about everything related to esoterics; nice people, Nice energy.

The athmosphere, the energy.At first when I arrived, it was even too much. I actually wanted to stand in a corner and scream. But once I got used ot it, it was remarkable. I have never felt as energetic and alive all my life.
What was it exactly?
I can`t even tell you. Of course I went there to see Hamlet with Jude Law, and it was amazing. But that was not the whole reason for that feeling.
I actually loved being on Trafalgar Square very much. I remember even when I visited for the first time over 10 years ago, it felt like coming home. I also liked walking through Bloomsbury and the Notting HIll market.
I definitely can say I didn`t like Camden though. IP: Logged |

watkins books is in cecil court, a small lane that runs off st martins lane (i think! god its been a long time!) so basically in the theatre district. i guess its not far from trafalgar square but you do kind of have to know where to look for it.definitely worth a visit. as is hampstead heath, and if you go in summer there are natural springfed ponds on the heath to swim in. also pretty well hidden! take a boat from the embankment to hampton court, great ride even if you don't care for palaces and gardens with mazes, etc. if its winter and snows, you can take a sled to primrose hill for a laugh outdoors. oxford and bond streets are great for window shopping but the markets are better for buying...although i hear portobello road is in danger of a complete overhaul which would be criminal. and DD is right. being sensitive psychically she would notice it more than some, but london like the rest of england is reeking with the energy of the ancient ones who KNEW... Katatonic,yes, at first I thought I was really going crazy. But this energy there, very mystical and vibrant at the same time. And I was kinda reading other people`s feelings, even more than I am doing here at home.
I can`t really read other people`s minds, but the emotional vibes that they have been sending out, was kinda overwhelming at times. Yet as I said it was a very positive experience for me. Actually when I left England, I could feel all energy literally drain out of me; it was worst in Belgium. I felt flat, like a balloon you have let the air out of.
But anyway, the theatre district would be my most favourite one, even though having said that, what I love most about this city is its versatility. You have that vibrating energy, you have loud and dirty streets, and then you go around a corner and it feels like you are all alone in this huge city. It is so calm and peaceful all at once.
Oh and the buildings, I remember, when I visited the first time I was walking through Chelsea and Eaton palace, just admiring the buildings, how they looked like. IP: Logged |

australia-europe is doable, i'm sure u can have cheap flights all year round. i'd suggest a trip to: london, paris, amsterdam, train through france to italy and the adriatic sea. there you have a lot to see already, but there is also portugal, spain, greece, the alps, ireland or corsica (called in french "l'ile de beauté" the island of beauty)i know something exist to travel by trains in different part of europe. it's called interrail, and for a certain price-cheap- gives access to trains of several countries (by "region" like southern european countries...) Corsica sounds very beautiful, too. I would like to see Italy and Greece.
I have been to Ireland and completely loved it there. Of course I have been to Amsterdam, too. Leiden is another Dutch city with a nice "old part" of the town. Actually when I was there the first thing I saw was a window of a bookstore with a huge poster of Nofretete. lol IP: Logged |

I have promised myself to do it. When the kids are older. I'm not a good flyer. I can't sit down or still for long periods, especially when I'm not in control of the vehicle - very bad passenger. In truth, I'm terrified of flying. That's really why Australia seems so far away and I wish I were closer to Europe.Getting there will need to be an adventure in itself. Lots of small trips - planes, trains, boats, driving. I really want to do that with my children. Something really treasured for all of us to share together. When they are older and can really appreciate and remember it. It's on my list. IP: Logged |

Dep - London is a unique city. It has many good points and also some things you need to be careful of. For instance, never get into an argument in public, even if you are right. It always ends up with someone pulling a knife. Never look directly at people late at night on public transport, read a book instead. Keep a low profile and don't draw attention to yourself.
Watkins and The Astrology Shop are excellent.
Shephards Bush and Ravenscourt Park are good places to live with adequate public transport access into Central London. Try not to live south of the river. If you do, live in Vauxhall but no lower down than that. I prefer the bus to the tube. Taxis are expensive, rentals are astronomical but you can find bargains.
