but I wouldn't say that it is the same as slavery

when there was slavery in USA,

blacks were whipped,beaten and even castrated and lost limbs
black females were raped by their white masters and even the overseers
black families were split up with black parents losing their children because they were being sold to other whites

blacks weren't allowed to be educated in any way

blacks knew very little about their African culture,roots,way of life
They were forced to take "Christian names" which they were referred to as "slave names"
That's why most blacks in USA have English names.
blacks weren't allowed to own things, weren't allowed to have property
they had to ask permission to get married

I think it's a great idea to make prisoners work hard for nothing. If you can't do the time/work, DON'T do the crime (they didn't feel sorry for the people that they hurt to get in prison). I don't feel sorry for them at all; prison isn't meant to be a holiday camp. It would save some of the tax payers money on keeping them locked up (as the prisoners could suport a chunk of the bill) and they can put the money to other good uses, like, education, hospitals and other social benefits.

Before you jump on me, yes I do know someone that was in jail (done time for murder) and he said "it was very easy and like a holiday camp without being able to leave."

Where else on earth could foreigners whose mouth size exceeds their talent quotient and IQ combined find an audience for their nonsense?

One would think that if Stephen Fry wanted to be taken seriously he would apply the old biblical axiom...

"Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye."

One would further think Stephen Fry could read that clearly since it comes straight from the King James Version, an English King.

It's as though Stephen Fry couldn't find anything wrong in Britain about which to moan, whine, screech and shriek.

Perhaps there's a beam so large in Stephen Fry's own eyes he's failed to notice the Socialist British Health Care System which is routinely killing patients...against their will and against the will of their families....and in a way no judge would permit for even a serial murderer. A bankrupt health care system which has paid up citizens pulling their own teeth, delivering their own babies in the hospital parking lots and paid up citizens dying on waiting lists so long they can't get to see a doctor or medical specialist. A Socialist health care system which has more government bureaucratic administrators than physicians. Label that....death by bureaucrats.

One would also wonder if Stephen Fry hasn't noticed the Islamic jidhadists standing on British street corners declaring they're going to overthrow the British government, overthrow the English Common Law, conquer Britain and establish Islamic rule.

Perhaps in addition to Stephen Fry's mouth being larger than his IQ and talent quotient his testosterone level is too low to be measured. A condition which seems rampant in British males.

Oh, by the way, in America any criminal defendant can demand a trial by jury and most do so. That means those who are in prison were not put there by the government but rather they were put there by a jury of their peers drawn from the general citizenry in the area. So, if a racial group seems over-represented in the prison population, the cure is simple. Stop doing the damned crimes.

I don't see anything wrong with prisoners working hard and getting paid very or not at all. After all, they are in prison for punishment and rehabilitation. They are not in prison to sit around,do nothing,and be lazy.

A lot of prisoners keep doing the same old stuff and they wind up back in prison again. They misuse their second chances.

Maybe prison needs to be much stricter,and then exconvicts will do everything that they can to keep themselves from being locked up.

Whatever happened to programs, SCARED STRAIGHT?
