If you're talking about that Air Force prank then I'm sure that's just gallows humor...sometimes the only way to deal with being exposed to death and mortal risk is to find ways to laugh at it. Creepy? It's certainly a lot less creepy than being cannon fodder or having no faith in your political and military leaders (as plenty in the armed forces do), among other things.

That aside, I also recall Danielle Harris saying that the ONLY act that scared her in making Halloween 4 & 5 (slasher horror flicks, and I think she was 10-11 while making the respective movies, though she'd experience her birthday while making it in the summer, IIRC) was crawling into a coffin. None of the other scenes scared her because as she said she was surrounded by people all the time (IIRC, she said she got scared when she saw the movie and couldn't see the crew anymore), she even forgot to scream once or twice when she was suddenly grabbed from the dark because the director forgot to tell her to. But they had to do some convincing to get her to climb in the coffin and lay down. If you're curious this tribute someone made for her character features her in the coffin off and on, focusing on it a lot IIRC (but I don't have time to watch it again now to be sure):

In the movie she got trapped in the attic which her evil uncle ("bogeyman") had sorta made a trophy room and shrine dedicated to his obsession to killing her, and her uncle had dug up the coffin of another child to put her in and she ended up hiding in it. Because of a telepathic link between her and her uncle she somehow manage to "hack" his brain and get him to take his mask off and for a brief moment regain his humanity though it hurt like hell (with his memories, no wonder) and he chose to become the monster again, and that's the one scene where her uncle shows actual rage (normally he's more of a slow but determined killer and I imagine him as demon-possessed, it would explain a lot...though Buffy, having similar advantages due to demonic energy and a lot more, would make short work of him). And it was the one time for the actress to get creeped out as she had to get into the coffin.

I don`t find it creepy .

What`s a casket besides some wood and material to jazz it up to hold a deceaseds body?

It`s the intention of the casket I believe folks find "creepy" and not the product it`s self

Why do they do it? Most likely there are those who do find it creepy and they want to get a reaction.
