After bankruptcy,
is filing for medical bankruptcy possible?
Our bankruptcy just cleared a year ago.
There is no way we can pay for the hospital bills we are having now.
We are afraid of becoming homeless.
This dark pit is devastating.
Any money we had saved has gone into $8,000 in roof repairs and paying off our mortgage.
Sorry folks but I am very depressed and how we are going to survive, I just do not know.
There is nothing I can think of to fix any of this nightmare.
LOL, sigh, even considering fleeing to Mexico to avoid all of it.
But that would not fix anything either.

They can't make you pay hospital bills. They can't put you in jail. And you are judgment-proof. Don't stress about it.

I have done it before. The medical bills were overwhelming in my case even with insurance. I had one year and four months of ICU/regular ward and an organ transplant, on top of labor and delivery. Plus cross country medical flights, helicopters plus ambulances. You go before a judge and you state your position. They will never take your house away. The judge will work out an amicable settlement and wipe the rest away.

Thank you Randall.
I am trying to keep myself from losing my mind here.
Any light in this life storm sure helps, even a glimmer of it.

Thank you YTA.
I know we live in an old handyman special with broken plumbing, bad wiring yadda yadda yadda, worth maybe 25 grand;
but it is cheaper than rent and paid for.
So you and Randall think even though we had to go bankrupt, filling in 2009,
that we could file again for the medical bills?
Need some miracles here.
Oh yes,
I AM VERY THANKFUL MY HUSBAND IS NOT IN CRITICAL CONDITION NOW.
But so worried about everything else.
He is depressed enough due to his seizures and how hard things were before and now omg worse now.
I just hope he does not get suicidal again.
I am finding myself being forced to be strong again when I feel like I have very little left within me to continue.
I hate that he has to use insulin now;
but the diabetic shock did alert us to the other condition that would have been fatal.
Sigh......
so some silver linings all in all but sure need more to keep afloat in this madness of life.

He needs to be on disability. Get on that ASAP.

Love to you both.

Hi Lexxigramer,

For a short while I used to work in medical billing. Depending on the hospital policy you may either do the following

Talk to the billing department at the hospital ( not customer service). Explain when you filled for bankruptcy, that currently both you and your husband are not working, explain your husband and your medical condition. Depending on the hospital they might be able to wave the hospital bill. If they do wave the bill ask if you will have to talk to each Dr. to wave or assist with the bill. Sometimes you might have to, Dr’s bills and hospital can be separate. The hospital might ask for some proof of income or lack of income, or documents. Always write down the name of the person you spoke to.

If the hospital says no ask for a reduction this they can not say no or should not because they give insurance companies reductions.

If need ask to speak a supervisor or manager, ask about options most hospital are required to provide assistance to those in financial need.

One tip
No matter what they say remember this it is ten times better to cry then to get angry or yell. Even if you do apologize and ask for help, people are more willing to help those who cry than those who get angry.

Take Care Honey,

Hecate

Yes, Lexi. You can file again. Bankruptcy is designed to be for your protection and it's your right as an American citizen.

There should be no shame. I've been down that road before in 1996, and the 3-1/2 million dollar bill wasn't anything compared to the life of my son, and the courts agreed.

I built myself up again and I know you can too.

Keep your faith and stay mentally strong. Your husband depends on you being strong.

Love from this brother.

Thank you and much love to you too.
My son was very ill as a child and had heart troubles.
He even had a heart attack at age 16.
I have had 26 confirmed miscarriages and he is my only child.
He is better health wise now and will be 32 in August.
Yes,
for those we love, my husband, my son;
no sacrifice to save them is too much.
I usually get through these things and do not freak out until the danger has passed.
Always been strong.
But this time I am not coping well.
I posted about that on the other thread.
I feel like such a wuss this time.
I cannot help it;
just feels like everything is falling apart.
Sigh
breathe breathe be calm be calm things will get better somehow.
Now to make myself believe that.

Lexx,

Does tne hospital have financial assistance? A lot of facilities have a financial counsellor and even programs you can apply for to get refuced or free care. In the meantime, they can help keep any current or accumulating bills from going to creditors, thus keeping the phone calls and harassment at bay.

Best wishes for a swift recovery to your husband. I can relate to your stresses, and offer simply to make contacts and fight for your rights. As we know, nothing gets easier, we just learn as we go just how strong we can be.

Namaste.

...so glad things are settling a bit for you now!

In some states [usa] there's a medicAID program that kicks in if your bills go over a certain amount for a quarter or a month's basis... calculated by a formula including your income and assets.

Could be called the "share of cost"?

With filing for social security disability, the amount of money you receive will START from the moment they officially receive your application.

Do it BEFORE the month ends, and your partner gets credited for the whole month (I think)... If you wait till next month, you will miss a whole month's check.

It can take some people only 6 mos--- and others 2 1/2 years... There's usually one rejection, first. BUT the money that comes to you will start from the MONTH you first applied (... I think).

BTW... Mercury going Retrograde SOON! Get it in NOW! red tape!! delays, confusion, miscommunications. Oh, but YOUR natal Mercury IS retrograde already.... that can be lucky for some people-- -

(Take good care of your self!)

BTW... Is THIS the partner that has a "well to do" family? Why don't THEY offer some assistance for their blood relation??

Seems I recall they were ready to leave YOU high and dry?

(Hope I'm remembering correctly?)

Anyway.... Please ask THEM to do THEIR share... Not fair that YOU do this all by your self?

I mean, there's 'embarrassment' of asking?... but then there's YOUR HEALTH (physical and mental)... There's NO way you should be "burdened" with all this to have to go through it "all by yourself"...

I'm not completely sure, but I think that this is the lesson of your natal chart Saturn-Sun, as it's being transited by Saturn conjunctions to them right now??

I mean you have NOT lost feistiness, but you are "older"... or should I say 'entering Official Elderhood' this year. It's the TIME to safe-guard your HEALTH: this could be a "destined" meeting... (I'm looking at your chart!!) Let his relatives take responsibility and help with THEIR ample resources!!

You are SUCH a PRECIOUS soul! You love so completely... Your partner is so dam lucky. But I'M watching out for YOU!!! right now.

(If you don't fend for you, then I WILL!! ROARRRRRRR!!!!

Rant just 'suspended' for NOW....

MUCH Love to you Lexxigramer!!!!!)
