In the U.S...My boyfriend and I are being evicted and our only help is my family taking us in in a different state. But he is just beginning to try and fight his ex in court over child support arrears that he believes were wrongfully accrued. Can we fight this from another state or does he HAVE to stay here if he wants to fight her? IP: Logged |

Though laws vary state by state, that requirement sounds silly to me and I'd be surprised if it were true of any state...but the only person who can really answer that with any authority is a divorce lawyer who would know the particulars of the states involved. And he should already have one. If he doesn't, if he's trusting that truth and justice (as he sees it) will carry him through without a lawyer, then he's doomed to lose anyway. (In his case, a PI could be a big help as well, though they're generally not worth it unless A LOT of money is at stake.) IP: Logged |
