We've all see excerpts of the famous MLK speech, but how many have seen the entire thing? A history professor in college played it for us, and there wasn't a dry eyes in the class. Arguably, the most moving speech ever made. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H0yP4aLyq1g IP: Logged |

I was 8 years old then. In lots of places non white folks were still being made to sit in the back of churches and often not allowed to attend schools with white children. Those were scary times to say the least. QWe were still being told to hide under our school desks when air raid siren drills were tested. People were clueless back then for the most part. No satellites, no internet, not any kind of instant news. MLK was treading on very dangerous ground in those extremely paranoid, hate filled, clueless, racist, bigoted, low technology, etc.etc, times. People had barely got past the 1800s then. It was not until about 1969 that some things began to change, but almost 2 decades to see a glimpse of the world as we know it now. Interesting factoids bout MLK: quote: Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was born Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin.
Lexigramming wise the name change does change things some. His birth name: Michael Luther King, Jr sequences to: A C EE G HH II J K LL M N RR T U His chosen name: Martin Luther King, Jr sequences to: A E G H II J K L M NN RRR TT U There are significant differences.

------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

quote: Which Dr. King do you honor today? The one who said that white Americans had betrayed their professed commitment to ethicality and equality -- and that the country had bounced a check to black folks, which black folks were coming to cash -- or the bland and sanitized apostle of color-blindness sold to you by the media? Which Dr. King? The one who said that America had become the "greatest purveyor of violence in the world," or the whitewashed infantilized proponent of pacifistic forgiveness in the face of oppression and brutality, made popular by a culture uninterested in accuracy or truth? Which Dr. King do we honor? The one who said "private charity is no substitute for public justice," or the milquetoast advocate of abstract "service" and volunteerism peddled by colleges, universities, high schools, church groups and the non-profit industrial complex? Sadly, I know which one most of our elected officials honor. Which is why they ought not darken the door of any King commemoration at all, so great is their hypocrisy, their venal disregard for the legacy upon which they trample every day they draw breath.

Just saw his son and niece on FOX News. His son met with Trump. His niece was interviewed, and she implores the Dems to unite and accept Trump's peaceful transition. They both say Lewis should work with Trump to bring America together. Love. Peace. Unity.Michael is a 43--one of, if not the, worst number of all, according to the Ancients. Martin is a 29--not much better as numbers go, but it accurately describes what he went through for the rights of others. The 29 is called Grace Under Pressure. IP: Logged |
