I have been thinking about doing it for a long time, but I haven't done it because I got discouraged. You see, there's one astrology group in my city already. It's run by a professional astrologer and it only attracts about 5 to 10 people per month. So my thinking was I couldn't possibly be successful if a professional astrologer had trouble getting people to come to her meetups. Secondly, Everyone who goes to her meetup is 40+. When I went I was always the young person, So I wondered if there is even any other young people interested in astrology in my city.
I got to thinking about it and I concluded that maybe the timing of her meetups is inconvenient for people. She always has her monthly meetup at lunch time on Sundays. That is not a good time for a lot of people. In fact, that is why I dont go anymore. I am always busy on Sunday afternoons.

So,What would be good days and times to have meetups? How can I market it to get college aged people to come? I figure there's gotta be a few young people in my city that are interested in astrology. It's just a matter of reaching them. So, any ideas? Advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

5 to 10 people is a nice size group, Aquaguy. It's intimate where you all get to know each other individually at some kind of depth-level, yet with enough people that if you had to slack for a bit on your 'homework' there would still be discussions and things to learn.

Your older astrologers (if they've been long-time astrologers) have a lot to teach the younger crowds-- not just about astrology generally, but about Life itself. And as an astrologer, you would want to have contacts of ALL age groups. Not enough diversity (of all kinds) can give a false feeling or notion that you're right. And you MAY be? LOL!!!! okay okay

There's something about having lived longer chronologically, that gives you an intelligence that is not possible by youth. EVERYONE needs to be included. There's extra wisdom available when you pour into each other's lives.

Now.... (I'm laughing in a gentle and knowing-way here), IF your purpose is to 'pick-up women'??? then KNOW that out loud to yourself, and maybe set up some date-groups based on love-synastry parties?

You're out somewhere around Kentucky or Tennesee (if I recall)?

Why don't you go to the big book stores, or the metaphysical bookstores in your area and leave a business-card with an inquiry?

It might also be helpful to bring it up in the astrological group that's already established. Let them know you want to arrange a young-group? They might help you accomplish that. Maybe some of them know young people that YOU could sit down with and TEACH them the astrology-basics?

How about YOU doing a fun-lecture at those Bookstores, about youth and dating?

Get yourself out there, if you are Dreaming about the LARGE Audiences, instead of small-groups.

Get involved in your local Toastmasters Clubs.

Go to the bars and clubs, leave a Notice that you want to do lectures on Astrology?

Get a spot on your local radio stations, being interviewed on Astrology?

How about the local YMorYWCA? Do a lecture! Libraries sometimes look for interesting things to present in workshops for the community.

How about volunteering to do astrology classes to youth in Homeless shelters? Give them some counsel about their career paths?

I know that there have been Astrologers who have catered to youth-groups. Have you contacted (networked) with any of THEM?

Why don't you attend an Astrology Conference? Those places are PRIME for meeting like-minded interested folks. They exchange cards, become life-long friends!

There are several conferences coming up. Do your research.

As far as youth-groups are concerned.... There have been astrologers doing that. They are out there! Network with them and find advice.

Explore!! Dream!! and Have Fun!

Mirage,
I want to start a meetup group because I want to have a chance to develop a social group of people who share my interest in astrology. Naturally, since i'm young i'd like to meet young people. I like the other group, but they are old and set in their ways and can be somewhat uptight and rigid. Plus, they only meet once a month on Sundays at lunch times and I rarely get to attend it because that time is usually inconvenient for me. Thanks for the suggestions.

There's this site I use, called Quora - those folks also have meetups of members in & around where they live. Takes some time to get theses kinda things going, but once they're up-n-running, they take on a life of their own.

Maybe you could start by hosting a small one yourself, and go from there..? Like, posting on some message board like LL or any other platform you use, where you know you'd get *some* people.

Maybe you could come up with some fun little Astro-games and package it as a have-fun-n-learn/hobby-club thing? With a name and/or motto?

Basically, for the first time (or first few times), you'll need a *hook*, to get people there.

Thanks for further explanation Aquaguy... I can see and understand what you're up against. For real!

I'm glad you liked my suggestions. I hope you can revive astrology there where you live with a fresher and more-vital group of people!

Go For It!
