To quickly summarize it, the Earth acts a bit like a capacitor in some ways that can get charged up by outside energies (especially Solar, and then cosmic).

The magnetic field acts as a filter/shield for much of these outside energies, but our magnetic field is weakening at an ever faster rate.

Hence, the Earth is getting more charged up electrically by these outside energies than in the past, and one of the way it discharges and neutralizes that energy is via lightning.

But yes, what happens is first the magnetic poles shift/move and the field weakens, and then eventually reverses polarity, and this is followed by the actual crustal shifting. They are related to the same internal processes, but it's not that the former directly "causes" the latter.

According to Edgar Cayce, in 1936, the inner independently rotating core shifted away from the axis of the rest of the earth (i.e. with north towards polaris), and that this has been destabilizing the earth more and more since, and causing climate changes (along with the sun), increased geological activity like earthquake intensity and frequency, and will eventually lead to actual crustal shifting.

If mainstream science was the end all, be all to human knowledge, none of us folks would be here at forums like this. Hence while I respect and listen to science (after all, I have Cap Sun and Merc, and N.Node, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn in Virgo, a fairly strong Mercury, and Venus, ruler of my Moon and 3rd in Aquarius and Angular), it is not my god and I question mainstream science quite a bit as I've seen a lot of holes in various accepted paradigms all across the board.
