I thought about sharing this last weekend, but I changed my mind for a while… thought it might be taken as just a silly prank. (Full disclosure: I didn’t see this with my eyes, only through the camera, so I didn’t take it all that seriously myself at the time.) My sleep schedule is really off right now— yesterday I woke up and went out to buy cigarettes around 4 am, had a little mini-meltdown in the parking lot for no apparent reason, and as I was leaving the clerk said “be safe, love.” Driving home, a tree had fallen across the road. I swerved left and barely made it under the trunk, knocked off a mirror and dented the hood and roof a bit from crashing through several branches the size of my arm. I know I’m lucky to be alive right now, but I’m still not quite feeling it… most of the last day I’ve just been sitting here wondering, if no one needed anything from me, what would I do? http://i.imgur.com/e6HAGDN.mp4 It stopped raining while I was typing, so I think I’ll go pick mushrooms.IP: Logged |

That sounds like it was rather, um, harrowing in nature. Sorry to hear about the damage to your vehicle, but yes, you are fortunate to not have been hurt. (Though death of the body equates to a nice vacation in my mind). Cool video. I wonder what that little cyan light is all about. Looks like it might be a reflection of the sun off the camera or phone glass, because it seems to move with whatever is taking the video? Either way, it's pretty cool looking. Btw, wished you lived closer, so that we could hang out more IRL as they say. But then again, you have your hands pretty full anyways. IP: Logged |

Actually, it was strangely not scary… I just slowed down and kept driving, no adrenaline overload to deal with in the moment… still processing though, I guess. A week-long silent retreat sounds like an ideal vacation right now. And definitely not looking forward to car repairs along with all the other administrivia, but very glad it wasn’t any worse. I think the thing with the light was mainly caused by the water droplets on the spiderweb— very nifty little saucer-shaped halo around the main focal point. If I remember right, it showed up in all of the shots facing east. Yeah, I wish I were a bit more mobile and less preoccupied… more realistic intention, though, maybe we can try to plan another weekend in September/ October. Are you still thinking about doing an AT hike sometime soon?IP: Logged | |
