I'm a millennial, but I have always liked the classic powerhouse men's colognes from the '70s and '80s. Drakkar Noir has always been one of my personal favorites and I fanboyed out when I saw that Guy Laroche was releasing a new entry in the Drakkar line a few weeks ago. I just got my bottle and I'm in love! It combines the classic herbal, citrus, patchouli and moss notes of Drakkar Noir with touches of vanilla and suede to give it the standard modern sweetness. I was a little bit weary when I saw vanilla listed in the notes because I don't like overly sweet scents. However, after this one dries down a few minutes the overpowering sweetness gives way to a spicy pepper musk with sweet vanilla undercurrents. It's really nice. It smells especially good on fabric. Spray this one on your shirt! I'd recommend trying it if you are looking for an inexpensive and interesting new men's fragrance. It's under $30 online.

I don't wear cologne anymore, but I used to dabble in the scents a few years ago to experiment and see what women liked. My three favorites were the ones women would constantly comment positively on: Drakkar Noir, Polo Crest (not regular Polo--ewww), and Paul Sebastian (PS). PS is very sweet smelling, but women really loved it. I didn't know Drakkar was from the 70s and 80s! All three are still available.

I'm surprised you like Drakkar but hate the original Polo. Both of them have similar notes and both are more green and herbal than sweet. Personally, I love those more masculine old school scents. Anything with patchouli is generally good in my book.

Drakkar Noir was originally released in 1982. Drakkar Intense released on the 40th anniversary of Drakkar Noir's release and the 50th anniversary for the original Drakkar scent that came out in 1972.

I’m just going by what women have told me they like. Polo Crest for the win.

It's no surprise that the scents you like are the same scents that women like on you. Skin chemistry affects which scents smell good on you. I remember that Calvin Klein Eternity never worked on me, but it was my good friend's go-to cologne. Meanwhile, Calvin Klein Obsession has always been my favorite. It's also the one that gets the most compliments from women when I wear it. I'm going to keep wearing Drakkar Intense and see what kind of feedback I get. So far the reaction to it has been positive.

Drakkar! Wow! What a great perfume for men! I didn't know that there are still men who wear it. Yes, it is an old one, but it is so classic! Very nice preferences in scents from these two gentlemen here. Though I must admit I don't know the Paul Sebastian at all...

We call it cologne when it's for men. Paul Sebastian almost smells like perfume. Very sweet scent.

I used to have a huge cologne collection. I am starting to build another one at the moment. I want to buy Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent next. That one sounds amazing based on what I have read about it in reviews.

Kouros! Wow! Yes, it is amazing! An old one too, but really great! You are definitely a traditional man.

That's good to hear. I definitely feel good about buying it now. From what I gather, it's a very polarizing fragrance that is off putting to some. That is right up my alley. I even wear straight up patchouli oil and that is notorious for being off putting and even offensive to some, but I have found that the women I find attractive love the way it smells on me. I even had a particularly outspoken woman say she usually hated the smell of patchouli but it somehow smelled okay on me.

A kouros is a sculpture that first appeared in ancient Greece during the Archaic era, that is 700-480 BCE, representing the ideal young man, especially that one of noble rank. Early statues of kouroi were influenced by the Egyptian geometric forms, as Greece and Egypt at that time were tightly connected and highly dependent on one another, as a result of the trade routes they had developed. Soon after those initial stages, Greeks mastered the anatomy of human figure and turned towards a definite realism that was welcomed and accepted in the Greek society that revered the human form. While Egyptian statues were clothed, at least to some extent, a Greek Kouros was always nude, portraying a universal symbol of humanity. A Greek Kouros is always a hero or an exemplary worshipper of Apollo, this masterful magician, the god of beauty, the god of the Sun and the light, the leader of the Muses...

This is Kroisos Kouros. He is 2,500 years old. You can find him in the National Archaeological Museum. Here in Athens. Downtown.

I smelled Paul Sebastian today for the first time in years. The scent has grown on me. I really like it.
